Triangular Geometric Chain

Update: In this third iteration, I've redesigned the supports to be easily removable, resulting in a refined and improved chain

I sought to create a chain for integration into my 3D-printed bag designs, aiming for a distinctive linking mechanism and aesthetic. To achieve this, I employed a triangular geometric form. The offsetting of two triangles at the connection point creates a satisfying interlocking structure. Significant effort was dedicated to fine-tuning the chain's flexibility and printability. Pleasingly, the final product boasts a unique appearance and tactile quality, further enhanced by a delightful, gentle clinking sound when manipulated.

Printing Guide

Printing the third version: The first plate yields a 50cm chain, suitable for wrist wear when formed into a figure-eight. The second plate produces a 75cm chain, ideal for necklace use. The third plate provides a shorter length, perfect for testing or hand-worn applications. Upon completion, use needle-nose pliers to easily remove the supports. Finish by gently filing away any excess material from the chain's surface.

I've successfully printed this chain at both 75% and 50% scaling, although the characteristic gentle clinking sound is less pronounced at these sizes. I will subsequently upload 75% and 50% scaled versions suitable for necklace use, enabling fellow makers to conduct their own testing.

This chain design will undergo further testing; if satisfactory, it will be integrated with my flex fabric bag connectors for seamless attachment. Regardless, its inherent charm makes it equally well-suited for both playful manipulation and wrist wear.
