Description
PETG Viscosity Cup (3D-Printed)
This viscosity cup was manufactured using FDM 3D printing from PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol). The design adheres to common standards for viscosity determination via outflow time measurement and is specifically intended for use in laboratory and workshop environments.
PETG offers an outstanding combination of dimensional accuracy, mechanical stability, and chemical resistance. Its smooth surface texture makes the material particularly well-suited for handling liquids, enabling clean and controlled outflow through the nozzle opening.
Chemical Compatibility with Paints and Thinners
PETG exhibits good resistance to many substances, including:
- Water
- Alcohols (e.g., ethanol, isopropanol)
- Weak acids and alkalis
However, caution is advised when using it with solvent-containing substances. PETG is sensitive to highly aggressive organic solvents such as:
- Acetone
- Toluene
- Xylene
- Nitro thinner
- Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK)
These substances can dissolve the material, lead to stress cracks, or permanently damage the component's structure. Therefore, the cup's use is only conditionally suitable for solvent-based paints or thinners.
PETG is, however, unconditionally suitable for water-based paints or tests with mild, alcohol-free thinners. In cases of uncertainty, a preliminary compatibility test or an alternative material selection is recommended
