Description

I have a bunch of Panasonic Eneloop AA batteries and I've learned that they're slightly wider than a standard AA battery.  As a result, I figured I'd go ahead and design my own #gridfinity container. I was able to modify Jamie's OpenSCAD Gridfinity Model and clumsily tweak it to hold my AA batteries tightly enough .

I tried it with a few other standard AA batteries that I have around the house and it works well for them,  but depending on their diameter, and depending on the differences between our 3D-printers' calibrations they may fit a bit  tighter or looser for you.

I designed this intentionally to be on the tight side. I don't want my batteries coming loose when I pull the bin out of the drawer.

This is a parameterized design which can be customized to meet your own needs:

  • Add additional sets (3) of AAA batteries.
  • Adjust the size of the battery holes.
  • Add or Remove holes for magnets.

All customizations

  1. Download and install OpenSCAD
  2. Download and unzip All Model Files
  3. Run OpenSCAD and open the gridfinity_battery_aa.scad file.

Adjusting the hole size to fit your batteries: 

  1. Measure your batteries with a caliper and update the battery_diameter variable (default is 14.5mm)

Adding magnet holes

  1. Change the magnet_holes value to true. (default is false)

Export the STL

  1. Save the changes to the .SCAD file
  2. Render in OpenSCAD  (Design > Render)
  3. Export updated the STL (Design > Export)

It worked perfectly for me and came out sized just right.

Other Issues:Almost none of my batteries fit, the default holes are ever so slightly too small (shame Bambu Handy doesn’t support parameters!)

It's a good thing OpenSCAD is free, the source is included, and the description includes directions on exactly what you'd need to change if you wanted every so slightly larger holes for your batteries.
