Hello everyone,

Besides my Bambu Lab, I have aquaristics as a hobby

I am an aquarist through and through, and thanks to my 3D Printer, I can simplify the underwater world a bit

I have already designed two other variants of the Water change Diffuser, which can be filled manually with a container (for example, with a bottle). You can find them here:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/1100569?from=search#profileId-1095792

Here you will find the same Direct System with ¾ inch thread for Quick Connect systems

https://makerworld.com/en/models/1211672-water-change-direct-fur-quick-connect-system#profileId-1226671

You can also find a few other things for the aquarium on my profile. Check out my profile

It annoyed me that the substrate always gets stirred up during water changes. I used to always hold my hand in front of it to dampen the jet a bit

Especially in aquascaping with smaller aquariums and fine, perhaps freshly planted substrate, it is important not to stir up the substrate too much or at all during water changes

So I sat down at Fusion 360 and designed something that should solve exactly this problem in every aquarium

My "Water change Diffuser direct" prevents exactly that. The aquarium water hose can be inserted directly and securely into the deep opening of the "Tube Diffuser" and the water can flow in directly via the hose. Hence the name "Water change Diffuser direct"

The water jet automatically flows through my diffuser, which resembles a gas station pump, and is broken up by the many small side-mounted outlets. This creates a very gentle rain in the aquarium

The water can only flow out of the diffuser sideways and not directly downwards, so that no jet is directed at the substrate. Consequently, no stirring occurs

Dose the water jet carefully at the beginning and get used to the horizontal water outlet first

And the best part: The "Water change direct" is available in 4 different sizes for all common aquarium hose variants: XS (8/11), S (9/12), M (12/16) and L (16/22)

*(Inner diameter/outer diameter)

Each size has its own print plate, simply select your hose size

Your size is not listed? Send me a message in the comments and I will take care of it

Of course, I also chose the proven mounting method with the screw here, so that the "Water change direct" can be flexibly adapted to any glass thickness

My Corydoras were very happy about it recently. The fish really like the imitated rain, and it also stimulates spawning

So, refilling the water with the diffuser can realistically simulate rain for the aquarium

The diffuser consists of 2 parts:

  • the Water change direct, in gas pump look
  • screw

I have printed several prototypes regarding orientations and supports; the version uploaded here is the one with the best result for me

The auto-support added a brim to prevent possible adhesion problems on the build plate

I myself printed on the Cool Plate SuperTrack on a P1S with PLA Basic. The brim may still need some deburring and smoothing

Please remove the tree supports very carefully to avoid causing damage to the structure

I deliberately chose 100% infill to ensure the best stability, and it also shouldn't float when the tank is almost full. You can also try with less infill, which saves time and filament - decide for yourself

However, my fantastic results only refer to my original print profile

I have printed and tested all 4 variants

Please note that screwing the screw into the thread for the first time may be a little stiff, but this will ease immediately

I have already given away some of my prototypes to aquarist friends and asked them to test them. The feedback was positive, and the effort seems to have been worthwhile

This diffuser is a relief with every water change, and the aquarium inhabitants enjoy the gentle rain

From my experience, this method is the easiest, safest, most convenient, and fastest way to refill fresh water into the aquarium

Connected to a faucet, you have both hands free, and the water flows in by itself

Also ideal for larger aquariums

I hope I can also simplify your water changes a bit with this

Continue to enjoy your underwater world and the 3D Printer
