Description
Flush mounted magnetic door catch designed to hold a 20mm circular neodymium cup magnet (15KG/33-35lbs). Can be fitted into the side of the door, or into the top of a double door where a normal roller catch or door latch isn't suitable or practical. Perfect for closets/wardrobes, built-in cupboards etc. Designed to fit a standard 35mm interior door.
The model includes the magnet holder, plus a range of different sized spacers which you can place underneath the magnet to adjust the gap, and consequently the pulling force of the magnet.
The holder is designed to be recessed/rebated into the door, and secured with 2 wood screws. A 3rd screw can be used to secure the magnet into the holder, and a magnet with a countersink is best suited. To install, simply drill a hole using a 25mm flat wood bit, mark around the outside of the holder with a pencil, and then cut the rebate using a sharp wood chisel. The 2nd magnet can be inserted directly into the door frame (I just drilled a 20mm hole using a flat wood bit), or you could also use another holder. The only thing to note is that the 2nd magnet needs to be oriented the same way as the first to ensure the opposing poles are adjacent to each other for attraction which means the cup/countersink on the magnet (if using the same type) will be on the wrong side, so you might need to glue the 2nd magnet in place.
These are not super strong, just enough to hold the doors shut and can therefore be easily opened and are very safe. For best performance, install the 2nd magnet into the frame, offset by around 3mm (towards the door stop) to ensure the door pulls in to the stop. Doing so will pull the door closed when left slightly ajar.
