Description

Build difficulty: Advanced

These are STL files used to create the 3D printed Storm Trooper Neon LED sign. Entire model is around 18 inches tall. Other materials used to build are listed below. I printed in multiple pieces and used a soldering iron to weld the pieces together.

Neon LED strips:

12 volt Power supply:

Cable to attach end of Neon LED strip to on/off switch:

On/Off Switch:

Design is great but description/tutorial is really poor...

I agree I need to get some better instructions put together. I will be working on this and updating the posts with better instructions when I can.

I printed the model, the front part is the one facing the build plate? so the less deep? or not?

as printed, the top(not on the build plate) is where the lights go. that is the front. the bottom, on the build plate. is where the wires can be routed to hide them behind the sign. here is an example on a smaller sign of routing the wires on the back. so the deeper channel is for the light, the smaller channel is for the wires.

Bed Adhesion Issue:after multiple attempts I was about to get a good print. it doesn’t matter what filament I use.

-print all the pieces -weld pieces together with soldering iron -cut your neon led strips along the black line on the back of the strip to fit into all the light channels on the sign -wire all LED sections together using 24 or 22 awg wire. I often use speaker wire for this. there are holes in the sign to route wires to the backside to hide them -I usually use hot glue on the back of the sign to hold the wires in place once I am done -connect to power as you go to check your connections are good -let me know if you have other questions. I will try to put together a more comprehensive tutorial this month at some point. -

thanks a lot. this one is one of the tougher ones. here’s the pic I have. this was once wiring was done and before I glued all the wires down. I usually use hot glue gun to keep the wires in place once it’s done
