Description
What is it?
This is a nozzle to use as part of a home made “pump sack”.
A pump sack is a bag that is used to help inflate air mattresses. Instead of using your breath to inflate the mattress. You fill the bag full of air, then squeeze the air into the mattress.
This pump sack nozzle is designed to fit Exped and Sea to Summit sleeping pad air valves.
How to make it
To attach to a bag, you can use tuck tape or similar to attach it to a plastic bag.
I recommend printing out of TPU. PETG will also work, but will not be flexible.
if you don't need it to be water tight, you can use the nozzle on its own.
If you need the bag to be water tight, like if you are going to use the pump sack as a backpack liner to keep water out, you can print a cap. Cap is uploaded as a STP file only. I recommend printing the cap out of PETG.
You can attach the cap and nozzle together using string or round elastic.
The assembly is designed to use two o-rings as per the photos. O-ring size: 22mm OD 18mm ID 2mm
Does it work?
I've tested how well it seals water for use as a backpack liner.
The TPU is water tight when printed on my machine with these settings. The assembly holds air if I inflate the plastic bag and squeeze it. No leaks past the nozzle when the cap is installed. The cap does not pop off due to air pressure when you squeeze the bag.
You use a pump sack by:
- Removing the cap,
- Rut the nozzle in an air mattress valve. It should “pop” or “click” in.
- Wave around or blow gently into the plastic bag. This inflates the bag a bit.
- Close the bag opening by rolling or crunching it to hold the air in.
- Squeeze the bag. The air from the bag inflates the air mattress.
- Repeat until you have a full air mattress.
- Remove.
