Description

My latest fidget is something a bit different - it is inspired by a tank track which allows for a few different modes of tactile feedback.

  • spin the track quickly in either direction
  • slowly rock the track back and forth
  • place track in palm of your hand (or hands) and spin
  • asymmetrical shape allows different holding positions.

NOTE: the track may be a bit stiff immediately off the printer.  Simply turn the track around the core a few times squeezing with slight pressure and it should loosen up quickly.

NOTE: depending on personal preference or filament type the track may be too loose (for some it even falls off).  There is a set of profiles with “Tighter Tolerances” in the name you can try if this is the case.  I recommend the original profiles first.

The different profiles offer different inner-core designs.

It great, but personally, I would have like the treads to have been a bit more tighter around the track

Thanks for the feedback. Is it so loose that the track comes completely off? I will play around with making a new variant that is tighter, but it might not spin as well. May I ask why kind of filament you used?

Yeah :-(. It "walks" off the tracks and separates if you spin it at a slight angle to the track. I used Bambu Lab's Basic PLA (Blue Grey). I'm not sure how much wiggle room you have in the tolerances, but a slight reduction in the length of the chain might be all that is needed

Oh, and I didn't scale or adjust anything on the print profile

Love it. Could you do one where four fingers have enough space?

Nevermind, I will just print it bigger

Let me know how the scaling works. I already have a smaller one in the works, making a larger one wouldn't be that hard.

Scaled the thing up 20%, came out very well.

Have you tried the profile: Ridged Inner Core (Tighter Tolerances)? There is a variance based on filament, machines, etc. so I created a separate profile for people running into the same issue you have.

Great concept, great print. The chain is a little too loose but if you hold it upright as in the cover video it becomes much more usable.

Thanks for the feedback, the track is not meant to fall off, and it doesn't with my prints. A few others have mentioned the same problem you have so I will be working on a new profile that tightens things up a bit. I think it may be filament dependent - may I ask what kind of filament (and color) you used for the print?

Bambu PLA Basic Gradient, Arctic Whisper. the chain doesn’t fall off, but it just has a bit of slack. still a great fidget. thank you for the model!
