Story

🎉 🎉🎉 This Campaign has successfully ended, but you can still late pledge if you're interested! 🎉 🎉🎉

Here are a few snapshots of the finished product.

🪚 And since you are here… Come and check out what else I have going on with my current campaign!

👇 The Original Woodworking Micro Feeder Campaign Starts Here

As a home garage woodworking enthusiast, I often find myself tackling projects that involve repetitive cuts—whether it’s cabinetry, door moldings, cutting boards, or any number of shop tasks. Like many hobbyists, I’ve always dreamed of owning a power feeder to take the strain off my hands and arms, improve safety, and produce more consistent results. The problem? Traditional power feeders are expensive, bulky, and hard to justify for the average woodworker who only needs them occasionally.

One day I asked myself: why not design my own? With a background in mechanical engineering and years of hands-on experience designing and 3D printing my own tools and solutions, I set out to create a small, affordable power feeder built specifically for hobbyists. After many iterations and test projects, I now have a working prototype that I’ve used successfully across multiple woodworking builds. It works, it’s reliable, and it completely transforms the shop experience.

Here are a few photos of the protype in action! There is also a video in the main crowdfunding image.

As amazing as using the prototype is, this campaign is all about taking the design to the next level—refining the model, improving components, and addressing the lessons I’ve learned through testing. By funding this project, you’re helping me dedicate the time and resources to finalize a tool that’s accessible, functional, and fun for hobbyists everywhere.

My engineering background ensures I can solve the design challenges that remain, and my experience with 3D printing means I know how to make this project not only work, but scale to a community of woodworkers who want pro-level capability without the pro-level price tag.

Here are some previews of the revised Micro Feeder:

Borrowing many of the prototype bones, but with more T-slots and commercially available components. Additionally now includes integral wire routing.
Inside view showing the larger wheel diameter for improved traction.
The backside additionally benefits from some new T-Slots for more mounting options.

Risks and Challenges

Every project comes with hurdles, and I want to be upfront about the challenges I’ve already identified through prototyping, along with how I plan to overcome them.

  1. Wheel Traction
In my prototype, the wheels—adapted from hockey pucks—proved too hard, which caused occasional slipping. To improve traction, I plan to increase the wheel size to 4” for a larger contact patch and use a softer durometer material for better grip.

  2. Power Source Integration
The prototype relied on a bench power supply with alligator clips. For the final design, I’ll integrate a right-sized power source with a standard plug-in connection for safety, reliability, and ease of use.

  3. Part Availability
My prototype leaned heavily on spare parts from my garage. Moving forward, I will carefully select components that are affordable, standardized, and widely available to ensure backers can easily source or replace parts if needed.

  4. Motor Speed and Direction
Currently, reversing and speed control were handled manually on my bench supply. The production version will feature a dedicated reversing switch and a PWM (pulse-width modulation) controller, allowing smooth feed-rate adjustments and easy direction changes depending on tool setup.

  5. Mounting Options
The prototype uses a T-track mounting system with two rails. For the final design, I intend to expand the mounting options so users can adapt the feeder to their specific bench or machine setup. That said, because every shop is unique, some level of user creativity may still be required.

  6. Wheel Placement and Small Workpieces
In the current prototype, the wheel placement is offset by the bearing housing, which limits how close the wheels can feed near the edge. With redesigned wheels, I will explore reducing that gap so the feeder can handle moldings or thinner stock under ¾” more effectively.

  7. Cost

There is no doubt the reason I am here is because even the cheapest power feeders still cost entirely too much. My aim is to have all components come in very close to half the cost of a new feeder. Prices may fluctuate with the market, but as of October 2025 I have my expected bill of materials totaling a value of $210 including filament. NOTE: This plus the cost of The Journeyman Package and Shipping rates serve as the costs basis for The Master Craftsman package.

I’m confident these challenges can be solved through careful design and iteration. My engineering background and hands-on woodworking experience give me the tools to tackle these issues head-on. By sharing these risks openly, I hope to show backers that not only have I thought through the details, but I also have a clear plan to deliver a refined, reliable power feeder built for hobbyists.

Rewards Packages in a Nutshell

Rewards Category Details

.3mf Files
These include all of the print files developed for loading and printing in Bambu Studio.

Bill of Materials
This is a complete list of 3D printed and purchase parts. All purchase parts come with an image, estimated third party price, and purchase links.

*Note: Prices may fluctuate with the market, but are accurate as of September 2025 with a total value of $280 for the complete bill of materials.

Assembly Instructions

Accessory Pack (Adapters/Mounting Plates)

As mentioned in the campaign details, it is understood everybody's workshop and layout will be unique on how the Micro-Feeder will be mounted and used. Therefore, I have designed in various T-slots around the tool for custom-made mounting plates using either ¼-20 bolts directly or dedicated ¼"-20 T-slot bolts. However, this add-on pack will give you various mounting plates I have pre-developed and used to date in both .3mf and full CAD (IGES) files.

Shipped Hardware (for residents living in the USA only)
This add-on will give you the benefit of not sourcing any of the purchase items (you will still need to print all of the printed items, but even the filament will be included). Add on this package and I will pack and send you a box of all the purchase items showing up at your door, ready to assemble! Shipping is included.

Reproduction License - Add on

Unlock license to sell physical printed builds of the Micro Feeder (digital files may not be sold, shared, or redistributed). You are additionally permitted to use the above STEP files to create and sell derivative works (For example, remixing the original model or creating new compatible components). The only condition is that you credit the original design in your product listings by mentioning my home page link: https://makerworld.com/en/@KeKap

*This agreement is an add-on and DOES NOT include any models, files, guides, etc. Those must be purchased separately.

Wireless Upgrade Kit (Milwaukee M12 or M18 Battery Attachment)- Add on

Go wireless! Because the motor is 12v DC rated, this kit will allow you to run the Power-Assist Feeder using a Milwaukee M12 or M18 Battery. As with the feeder, this kit will come with the .3mf print files, Bill of Materials, and Assembly instructions.

Note: The motor in my prototype uses ~1-2A at 12V under load. It is my current expectation you will get over an hour of runtime, even on a non-CP M12 battery. Obviously the larger the battery, the longer the runtime.

*Note: This kit will require a separate list of purchase items. I am expecting ~$5 for the M12 kit, and ~$30 for the M18 kit (for the voltage converter).

**This is an add-on for the Milwaukee M12 / M18 battery attachment only and DOES NOT include any power feeder models, files, guides, etc. Those must be purchased separately.

Full CAD Library (.STEP) - Add on

For those who just can't resist to make tweaks, this is the complete package of all the files provided above, in .STEP format. This will allow you to much more easily make adjustments to the model you may prefer.

*This is an add-on for the STEP files only and DOES NOT include any power feeder print files (.3mf), guides, etc. Those must be purchased separately.

Use of AI
AI Technology Implementation in Content Creation
I used ChatGPT to better outline my project description and story, and to improve some rendered images of my new model to be more realistic.
Human Oversight & Creative Originality
The project description and story were fully written by myself, and ChatGPT only improved the flow. I proof-read after completion for accuracy. ChatGPT had no involvement in in the creation of my models, only in the refining of the rendered images.
Third-Party Intellectual Property Compliance
Yes. I hardly used it and it is all my original work.
