What Is This Project?
Excalibur – is a fully 3D-printable, mechanical escape-room style puzzle designed for makers.
You don’t just print a model. You assemble a legend.
At its core lies a hidden locking mechanism that prevents the sword from being removed. To release it, players must solve a sequence of mechanical and electrical challenges integrated directly into the structure. Rotating rune pillars, hidden compartments, movable stones, glowing LED symbols, and a motor-driven rune ring all work together in one connected system.
The electronics are simple and accessible — buttons, LEDs and motors. No microcontroller is required. Everything is designed to be reliable, resettable and buildable at home.

What do you need to build it?
- Electronic components (see detailed list — Products available via MakerWorld / Maker Supply) must be purchased separately before assembly
- Screws and magnets (standard sizes, list included)
- Filament in stone grey, silver, brown and blue
(Optional: translucent filament for enhanced lighting effects) - A 3D printer with a minimum bed size of 256 × 256 mm
- Patience and careful assembly
- A standard paper printer (to print lore pages, rune guides and in-game hints)
Excalibur uses 2 N20 worm gear motors, 1 COB LED strip, 1 momentary button module, 6 self-locking button switches, and 6 LED boards in total — 2 single white LED boards and 4 four-LED white boards. Power is supplied through 1 AAA battery case, connected via 1 power distribution board, 1 SH1.0 to PH2.0 adapter board, 4 Y-type PH2.0 to dual SH1.0 wires, 4 SH1.0 dual adapters, 3 PH2.0 wire pairs, and 3 SH1.0 wire pairs.
For assembly, it also requires 30 round D4x2 mm magnets, 26 M2.5x6 button head screws, 2 M2.5x10 button head screws, 14 M2x6 socket head screws, and 2 small rubber bands.

Who am I and what to expect?
I am a professional 3D and Visual Effects artist. Storytelling shapes both my film work and my 3D printing projects. Through Structales, I design mechanical marble runs, kinetic display pieces and escape-room style puzzle builds that combine engineering, atmosphere and narrative.

What I need your help for?
What began as a simple sword-in-stone idea evolved into a layered mechanical experience. Each mechanism must function smoothly, reset reliably, and feel satisfying to operate. Achieving that balance requires extensive prototyping, testing and refinement.
Beyond mechanics, I want to deepen the lore with carefully designed graphics & immersive storytelling elements. As a visual effects artist and musician, building this atmosphere is something I care deeply about — but it requires time.
