$1,000 in MW Points to Revive the Magic of Old!

Contest Announcement

Update (Feb 11, 2026): The contest is now live!

Hey everyone! I’m putting my money where my mouth is. To encourage wonder and curiosity, and to celebrate my first crowdfund on MakerWorld, I’m hosting a design contest right here!

The theme is Old World Magic.

Think ancient relics, mysterious instruments, and artifacts that belong in an alchemist’s workshop. Create designs that feel like they came from a world where magic and engineering were once indistinguishable.

Prizes

The prize pool includes $1,000 of my MakerWorld points, transferred to the winners:

1st place: $500 in MakerWorld points
2nd place: $300 in MakerWorld points
3rd place: $200 in MakerWorld points

Point transfers will be processed directly by MakerWorld after winners are confirmed. Points can be redeemed in MakerWorld’s Points Shop, including for gift cards as currently offered. Points Shop offerings are subject to change.

In addition, 7 honorable mentions will each receive two of my favorite filaments:

Special Prize: A New Kind of Adventure

All 10 winners will also receive a “ticket” to my print-at-home experience, Cryptatrope: An Adventure in Time, which explores old world magic through geometry and light. The experience culminates in a mechanically projected stereoscopic 3D animation powered only by a glow stick.

Logistics

Winners will be selected by me based on relevance to the theme, innovation, completion, and visual appeal. Backing my crowdfund has no effect on the chances of winning.

To participate, upload an original, thematically relevant model to MakerWorld between Feb 11 and Mar 15, 2026, and join from the Old World Magic contest page, where you can find the full set of rules.

I owe a lot to this community, and I’m excited to see your timeless, magical designs. If you enjoy the theme, I’d love for you to check out the story-driven puzzle project behind it.

@sebsland3d : Hey, thank you for hosting such a contest! As a mechanical engineer, and a big fan of Da Vinci, I was immediately drawn into creating something mysterious where I can involve engineering and art. I had so much fun designing this model. I asked a few people to unlock it without giving them any clue and they all failed, haha!

@BoneForgePrints : i really do want to make something, but im not sure if my skill level is quite there yet. Do you have any thoughts on what would be pretty simplw but still a winning design?

@prime_tower : I can’t give specific design guidance beyond the contest description, but advanced modeling skills are not an absolute must. My own designs are often built from simple geometry and focus on an effect or a feeling. Old World Magic can be expressed in many ways, whether ornate or minimal.

@DarthPrinter : I am guessing the points will not be exclusive so that the winner cant redeem them for cash.

@prime_tower : Standard points redeemable for Bambu gift cards. My goal was to mirror the way most contest prizes work on MakerWorld, just at a higher amount. MakerWorld advised using regular points for consistency with their platform rules and prize handling, so I followed their guidance.
