Description

The second and improved version of a simple self watering seed starter with adjustable light.

A while ago i posted my take on an self watering seed starter in order to grow the plants for my hydroponic system from the seed.

You can find the old version here: Seed_Starter

Since the first version had some flaws and was not using the whole buildplate of my P1S, i decided to improve it.

The new version has space for 4 more pots (making it 17 in total), can handle 2 LED grow lights instead of one and many more small changes.

I also added a small place at the front of the basin where you can add a small sign indicated the veggie u are growing.

(I will upload signs for different veggies and herbs in the near future)

Print list:

If you want to print the seed starter 2.0 with the mount for the light you will need to print:

  • 1x Basin_with_mount
  • 1x Basin_cover
  • 4x Lamp_clip
  • 2x Top_thread
  • 2x Bottom_thread
  • 2x Height_adjuster
  • 17x Pot_V2
  • 1x Water_inlet_cover

For the right printing settings check the .3MF file.

Extra material needed:

Ok, so after you printed your seed starter you obviously need some medium in which u want to grow your plants and some light.

I designed the pots for some coconut swelling tablets i found on amazon, but any other grow medium will also do the job. If you decide to use the same tablets as me, here is the link:

For the light i used some cheap 5000K growlights i also found on amazon. The lamps easily snap onto the Lamp_clip on each side. Just make sure to buy the 29cm version of the lamp, or else they won't fit.

Sadly the 5000K LED Growlights are (as of now) only sold in packs of 4. Since you only need 2 for your seed starter you will have 2 to spare or you can just print another seed starter :).

Note:

  • As before the whole design of the seed starter is plug and play, so there is some tolerance on some parts like (the threads) in order to function correctly which results in the whole design not being the sturdiest one. Just don't tear on it and everything will be fine :).

  • When opening the Water_inlet_cover you can see two small indicator on the wall of the reservoir. This is the height indication for when the water has reached the bottom of the pots.

That's all. Happy printing and growing and if you have any feedback or questions i would be glad to hear it! :)
