Description

Assembly:

It's pretty straight forward, just use raw filament and push it into the provided hinge holdes.

For the latch install the wheels also with raw filament. After that, attache the latch to the lid with raw filament.

Now you can use TPU filament for the seal, you don't need to print something, just raw filament again which you can cut to size.

That's it!

Sizes

When using the new makerworld customization feature, please make sure to separte the objects in the slicer.

You can do like that: “right click on object → separte → to objects” now please autoarrange the objects for printing.

For customization and modding you can also use Fusion 360 to get more advanced options.

TPU Seal

The TPU Seal isn't needed, but it will improve the overall performance of the latch pieces drastically!

If you don't use the TPU Seal make sure to use the specialized lockpieces to get the same fit.

Releasenotes:

  • V1.5 Release:
    • This new version of The Allround Box solves a lot of problems from the previous versions.
    • New feature for the parametric file: Now you can adjust the latch size easily.
    • Parametric file issue fixed: After adjustion the width, sometimes the box was missing one of the outer ribs.
    • The latch mechanism is now improved to work smoother.
    • New page renderings are now used.

Very well-designed. Instead of filament I used some small steel rods. I might end up needing to put a little bit of glue for the TPU. However for the time being it’s staying, and I guess the longer it stays the more it will kind of get wedged in there. Anyway once again Great job And really appreciate you putting the 360 files up.

just wondering what size steel rods did you use and how did you secure them in place?

The steel rods were 150 x 2 mm. I don’t remember but I might’ve had to drill out the holes a little bit. I didn’t use anything to secure them they are just a pretty secure fit by themselves. I had to hammer them in with a small tap hammer once I cut them to the correct size.

awesome thanks! I ordered both 1.5mm and 2mm so I'll probably make the hole bigger to get a better fit with 2mm as 1.5mm is loose

Thanks for such an amazing work, just did some modification to add insert for my dji action 3 cambo and Action2 with laser cut leather insert for extra protection.

A great thanks for sharing your Fusion file! It was interesting to look through the model hierarchy and see how you built it. Please take my feedback as constructive. In your next revision perhaps add limits to the rotational joint for the latch, as it can be moved to overlap with / rotate through the case parts. The Mainbody could also be moved to a separate component, like the lid and Lockpieces. I also note that when the latch is closed (and presumably pushed upwards by the O-ring) in the Fusion model, there appears to be a small gap between the O-ring and the lid at the front (right in the screenshot), whereas at the rear (left in the screenshot) there is no gap. I haven't printed one to test this, but can you confirm how this looks on a printed part please? When a large hinge width was specified in the parameters, the hinge extended beyond the edge of the box (in the screenshot). If the reference edge for the hinge was the outer, rather than inner edge, this may work better. If I may suggest a feature, some ridges, grooves or other relief features (perhaps circular) on the top and bottom would add some stability when stacking boxes on top of one another, preferably without having to 3D print any support material. A great model! Please take my feedback as constructive. I look forward to printing one of these.

Hi, thanks for your really interesting feedback. As you found out, the joint limits are missing on the latch, I will ad these soon. But the latch mechanisim is in a pretty final state. The gaps are for material tolerance purpose and achieving the perfect click haptic. The Idea with some ridges and grooves is nice and I have had it too, but it will take me some time to implement something like this.

We could likely achieve better sealing with the aforementioned cando correction, as less compression of the front seal should improve it

the filament itself is the "rod" cut it to size and heat the ends so it cannot slip out

Printing four in doffeeent colors for my family. absolutely love this design. I want to try and print a gasket with TPU, but as is, we love it.

Thanks for sharing! You don't need to print the TPU gasket, simply use raw TPU filament for the gasket ;-)

I love your box, but it would be helpful in the description to note that the gasket is filament directly... I am lucky I was able to search and find this comment, lol, i've been trying to find the gasket for like 20 minutes.

This is a fantastic design. I used the parametric file to get exactly the right size box for a 500mm mirror lens and it worked out great. I had to drill out some of the holes to get the filament hinges in but apart from that it was perfect. I'd rate it five stars except I can't due to the way this silly site works (I didn't use a downloaded .3mf file). 5 stars!

I really wanted to give you an official rating so I downloaded the .3mf file, scaled a box to 2mm long and printed that.

In the future if a designer has a pre-loaded model, you can download it and just add the generated parametric file to additional plates on it and still be able to rate the model. This also allows you to use their settings instead of the defaults unless they set up print parameters by object.

I absolutely love this file! The parametric model worked perfectly too. I decided to add some text to the top of mine to make the contents easier to identify as well. This surpassed my expectations. Thank you so much!

HI, it is me again, Thank you a lot for share this design, and the fusion 360 file, thank you. I have another question... I wanted to print a box, very small, with one latch, and I couldn't using the parameters, could it be?. It does nothing if I choose 1 latch. I am sharing a picture, I forced the sizes and printed, but obviously it didnt' work, the latch is too big, the hinges are not right... etc. Is it possible to print something like this modifying some parameters? (I know I can modify the design to fix it... but I would like to know if just changing parameters I could do something this small with only one latch) thank you!

Hi, if you only want one latch, it's impossible with this file, but there is The Allround Box MINI, which is basicly the same box design, but with only one latch.

At the begining of this design I see in the pictures, some boxes with one latch, so I thought that it was possible. I will try the mini then no problem. Would be great, and I will see how, to have this possibility with this file, it seems like is not so far from working. But no problem, thank you!
