Slim Storage Bin & Backpack Insert

I originally designed this bin for my own backpack. The soft sides of the bag collapsed inward, making it awkward to load and difficult to keep organized.

This removable insert keeps the main compartment open, gives the bag more structure and protects the fabric interior. The whole insert can also be lifted out together with its contents.

The same simple design works well as a:

• slim storage bin
• wastebasket or recycling bin
• workshop organizer
• car or camper storage container
• tall cabinet or shelf organizer
• container for tools, bottles, cables and loose equipment

Dimensions

• Outer dimensions: 230 × 170 × 250 mm
• Inner opening: approximately 227.6 × 167.6 mm
• Approximate usable capacity: 9.5 litres
• Wall and bottom thickness: approximately 1.2 mm
• Outer corner radius: 10 mm

The thin shell is intentional. It adds useful structure without turning the insert into a heavy-duty box or using unnecessary filament.

Printing

• Print upright with the open side facing upward
• No supports required
• PETG recommended
• 0.20 mm layer height
• Designed for a 0.4 mm nozzle
• Tested on a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon

The model requires approximately 230 × 170 × 250 mm of usable build volume. Check the maximum printable height of your machine before starting.

Backpack fit

Measure both the inside of the backpack and the narrowest part of its opening. A bag may have enough internal space while still having a zipper opening that is too narrow for the complete insert.

Uniform scaling is possible, but scaling also changes the 1.2 mm wall thickness. Check the sliced wall structure carefully before printing a significantly smaller version.
