Underworld Chess Set
This chess set is inspired by the dark and symbolic realm of the Greek underworld, representing judgment, passage, and the unseen forces that govern the afterlife. Each piece embodies a distinct role within this world, expressed through sculptural forms designed for both visual impact and 3D printability.
The King is represented by Hades, the ruler of the underworld, symbolizing authority, inevitability, and silent power. His form is grounded, imposing, and unified, emerging from shadow rather than motion.
The Queen is based on Persephone, queen of the underworld, expressing duality between life and death through elegant yet structured forms. Her presence balances grace with underlying strength and mystery.
The Bishop is inspired by Minos, one of the judges of the dead, symbolizing judgment and decision. His design incorporates a scroll and a subtle gesture of command, both integrated into the body to maintain structural integrity during printing.
The Knight draws from Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld, interpreted as a compact, unified sculptural form. Its design captures the essence of the creature while avoiding fragile elements, ensuring a stable and print-friendly result.
