Description

⚠️ Important Notice Before Leaving a Negative Rating!

To ensure a solid and durable assembly, this model relies on very precise tolerances.
Because of that, your printer must be well calibrated and your filament must be dry.
If these conditions are not met, parts may feel too tight or difficult to assemble. This is intentional for stability and not a design flaw.

Printing conditions: 3mf file / Bambu Studio Slicer / Bambu Lab H1C / stl not recommended!

***

This model is inspired by the katana sword used by Connor MacLeod in the movie Highlander.
It is designed to be easy to print and consists of parts that are assembled by press-fit — no glue required.

With proper calibration, the result is a sturdy, clean-looking katana sword that holds together very well.

Enjoy printing — there can be only one! ⚔️

Assembly Notes

  • All parts are designed to be pushed together.
  • If the two rivets cannot be pressed in by hand, you can carefully widen the holes using an 8.5 mm drill bit.
  • If hand pressure is not sufficient, use a rubber mallet and gently tap the parts together.
  • Do not use excessive force.

Additional Assembly Tip

If fitting the parts together feels too tight, I recommend lightly chamfering the edges with a utility knife (box cutter).
Removing just a small amount of material from the edges can make assembly much easier while maintaining a secure fit.

Excellent! How did you manage to get the paintwork on the handle looking so nice?

That was a very happy accident. So the handle was printed in a cream white pla. Normally I would hit it with coat of ivory spray paint, but it was too cold, so I hand painted a coat of palid bone Speed paint, dry brushed different shades of cream/flesh tone, used several brown and black washes and then the happy accident was, since it was too cold to matte clear coat it, I used matte Mod Podge to seal it. Had to do several light coats, but it worked out incredibly well. Of course the tsuba and pins were done in a silk brass pla and I did do a multi color on the blade to give the appearance of having a brass habaki.

Finished the handle, printed a partial part of the blade just to hold the tsuba on as I decide if I want to add a foam blade.

Nice model! Unfortunately, the tolerances are a bit tight despite perfectly calibrated flow. But you can help yourself with a deburring tool 😉👍

Now I just need Duncan’s version! I’m planning on making a mold with this and casting one in epoxy, so this is great, thank you!

This is fantastic, your timing on posting this is perfect. One request, as I own a conveyor belt printer I am able to print full length blades as halves. Would it be possible for you to post the complete blade as one piece? I've tried assembling it myself and I'm unsatisfied with the results.
