Description

This is a cover that acts as a prefilter for your pool skimmer.

Its sleek and discreet design acts as a filter for foreign objects to prevent clogging in the skimmer basket. This is useful when toys are left in the pool or in the fall when trees lose their leaves. The holes are intentionally big enough to let smaller particles pass through, since it is not intended to replace the basket.

Dimensions

Many sizes are available. Select the profile that matches the dimensions of your skimmer inlet. If you can't find the one you need, leave a comment and I'll add a new profile.

Please note that the size corresponds to the inner edge and not the overall size of the model.

Also, the models are actually 1.5mm smaller overall to allow for a snug fit. It looks like a lot, but this is the best fit from my testing. The tolerance could be adjusted in the future if needed.

Edit (2026-05-28) : Based on some users feedback, the models are now 1mm smaller overall.

Instructions

Some profile can be printed as is on large printers like the H2D and H2S.

For most profiles, the model has been cut in half to accomodate for smaller printers like the A1 or A1 mini. In this cas, this will require glue to join the two pieces together. I considered adding connectors to the pieces, but they would not be sturdy enough without glue. Besides, I think a clean cut in the middle looks better than a dovetail on each side.

Recommendation

The model is intended for outdoor use, so it is recommended to use PETG or ABS.

Maintenance

Over time, particles that are too big will naturally build up in front of the filter. This will create a barrier that prevents the filter from working as intended. For optimal use, clean the filter regularly.

Disclaimer

I am not responsible for damage that may result  from a lack of maintenance.

Notes

There is a parametric version of this model, but I am not familiar with OpenSCAD, so it was designed with FreeCAD. I am therefore unable to generate the code needed to upload it to MakerLab.

Please let me know if there is an interest for it. I will consider providing the original file.
