Recently, I thought I had broken my 3D printer. After doing some routine maintenance and reinstalling the hotend, I started having issues with the first layers of prints. The upper layers looked great, but the first ones were messy — parts would often detach from the bed, dimensions were off, and the bottom layers were slightly shifted compared to the rest of the model. I assumed the hotend was damaged, so I replaced it with a brand new identical one. I ran full calibrations every time, read through all the guides I could find, but the issue persisted. I even started wondering if it was a firmware or slicer problem — I was one step away from changing the G code. In the end, it turned out to be something simple: the hotend wasn’t properly seated. Once I mounted it correctly, everything worked perfectly. I’m sharing this because it’s a good reminder that big problems often come from small oversights. Regular maintenance is important, but so is being precise and careful when putting everything back together. Spending a few extra minutes to check thoroughly can save you days of hard work and frustration in the future.
