This design stems from the need to have my pens, ruler, scissors, and other supplies within easy reach without taking up too much desk space (since I don't have much).
By being integrated directly into the desk, it eliminates the visual clutter that an ordinary pen holder might create and gives a sense of order and control to my workspace.
