Description

This is a modular, multi-tape dispenser. It allows customisation to your specific tape needs. The intent is to scale a few sections based off the sizes of the tapes used. Some items do need to be rotated for best printing (axle, alignment rail, Separator Guide), but no supports are needed for any item.

Some key dimensions:

Side walls - 10mm wide, 5mm wall thickness, axle sits 2.5mm into the wall. Do not scale

Expansion - 10mm wide. Scale to the width of the tapes you used.

Separator Guide - 13mm wide. Print one less than the number of tapes being used. Do not scale

Axle - 10mm wide. Scale to 4mm longer than the internal width.

Blade Cover - 10mm wide. Scale to 10mm longer than the internal width

Alignment Rail - 10mm wide. Scale to the internal width, or a fraction less. Print 2.

Internal width (mm) = 10 + (13 * Number of Separator Guides) + (Sum of tape widths in mm)

The Alignment Rail is used to help ensure proper alignment of all sections. It's not necessary if you can manually join all the sections (Side walls, Expansions and Separator Guides) in your slicer. The axle can be printed, but it is just as easy to use a wooden dowel. The Diameter is 13mm.

Once printed, just glue it all together using the alignment rails. Don't glue the axle in. The Dividers don't need to be glued but can for additional strength. Glue the blade cover on last once the blade is glued in place.

The unit uses 18mm packing knife blades. Simply glue them in place then glue the Blade Cover over the top. The blade will protrude 2mm out from the edge.

Additionally, it's worth creating ‘hubs’ for each tape with an internal diameter of slightly larger than 13mm (eg 13.5mm) and an external diameter to suit each of the tapes being used. Their width should be the width of the tape plus 6mm to fit nicely in the slots. I haven't included any in this design as they cannot be scaled easily.

13 May 24 - I've added a version 2 Divider. It has a better profile for accessing tapes, especially as they run down. See the photo showing the difference. It's compatible with the rest of the design. You can simply swap the old Divider for the new one.

You might also consider designing a blade protector, the 18mm blades are quite sharp and makes the tape holder a little bit dangerous to have lying around a work bench.

Thanks @donnay I need to think about how i can do that. The blade is deliberately recessed to help with this, but I agree it is quite sharp as I've found out a number of times already.
