This bit holder accommodates 6.35mm (¼") HEX bits. These are common screwdriver bits found in hardware stores. I have tested Bosch, Makita, and generic brands.

Suitable for up to four standard 25mm HEX bits or three longer bits up to 65mm. With shorter bits, one can remain permanently affixed in the front. Three fit in the rear, making a total of four.

For longer bits, please print the alternative rear cover. The front cover remains the same; I did not print a longer one as this would make the tool excessively long. Therefore, use only three long bits or three long plus one short bit with longer bits.

Before first use, carefully insert a long bit a few times into the front and remove it to correct any printing inaccuracies. This is quite difficult initially. It's best to insert only 2-3mm and then withdraw. Repeat this several times. It's preferable to have a tight fit rather than bits falling out. It will become easier after a few uses.

HEX bits measure 6.35mm; the receptacle is printed to 6.54mm, achieved through 0.2mm iterative adjustments. This must be a very snug fit, it must not wobble but must also be removable. It works exceptionally well with standard PLA in the X1 Carbon and A1.

Feedback is welcome. If it doesn't function correctly, I can create a version with a larger receptacle. The current version functions very well with my bits and the X1 Carbon.

Printing is straightforward. The central section requires minimal manual support (see image); simply insert it with pliers and gently rotate for easy removal.

A small magnet (10mm x 2mm) is required and should be glued in place using UHU HART or superglue. Other adhesives may work, but hot glue is too thick!

The magnet secures the bit at the front and simultaneously holds up to three bits at the rear.

Update: A “looser fit” version with a 6.6mm HEX receptacle has been added as a STEP file as a precautionary measure
