Description

From questions asked in the comments I have added some additional profiles.

There is a profile for pieces without the hexagon 10mm nut recess so you can print the bases solid for additional weight.

Another profile has provision in the bases for 6mm x 3mm Magnets.

Another profile has provision for concealed 6mm x 3mm in the bases with this profile you would need to pause the print at a certain layer height to insert the magnets then start the print again.

These additional profiles are untested by myself as I have no need for the additional chess pieces.

These Pieces are my 5th variation of Chess pieces and as I continue to improve at the design stage I feel that I can push the boundaries a little more of printing without support, using supports often spoils the aesthetic look of the pieces IMHO.

These V5 Chess Pieces are made from a classic chess base shape with 6 columns as the center piece of the pieces, these columns support the top part of the various chess pieces, using these columns allows light to pass through giving a dynamic effect on the board.

The King is 95mm to the top of the cross with the rest of the pieces scaled from that.

Thought is given to the top of the columns where it meets the main part of the piece avoiding the use of support which would spoil the pieces.

The knight is the same one as I have used in a previous set this is in 2 pieces but I have split the base into 6 segments to mimic the centre columns just to make it a bit different, the knights head prints on a separate build plate with minimal tree supports which are easily removed with no or very little clean up.

I always print the pieces to prove that they can be printed, I haven't printed a full set as I don't need them, but the Print profile is for the full set plus I include the files for the individual pieces.

I am liking the BambuLab White Marble and Black Sparkle for the chess pieces, I think its a great combination.

Printed with the BambuLab X1 Carbon on a PEI Textured build plate.

Another chess set which I have loved designing and Printing.

Thanks for Looking.

search for low poly pokemon chess box on makerworld. I scaled it larger and added a hole in the tiles for a magnet.

supports keep falling on the knight

That’s odd, there have been many downloads an no mention of that happening, try downloading the file for the knight and upping tree support slightly, mine turned out perfect, my X1 carbon is calibrated each time I print a model

Printed one to test out my new filament. Looks so good with the petg-cf filament!

I only printed one rook for testing purposes. I’m keeping it on my desk as a decoration :)

printed flawlessly right up until I forgot to put the build plate back in the printer. That part didn't go so well. The knights snapped together perfectly no need to glue. Now I'm going to find some hex nuts for the base and we will be golden. Thank you for sharing your model.

I went to the hardware store today. 10mm hex nuts just a little too big for the hole. 3/8 to small and also too tall. 7/16 nuts also too big. I'm thinking maybe bbs and epoxy?

Yeah, it's strange how the size of the nuts change all over the world, I have just completed another design with hollow pieces so they can be filled with BBS or Resin etc, they have a screw in plug in the bottom of each piece. They are not the same design obviously but here is the link if it helps...https://makerworld.com/en/models/2018858-chess-pieces-hollow#profileId-2175479

Very nice detailed figures with a great smooth surface. However, there were problems with the pawns in the first layers, with an outer layer detaching on several pawns, despite multiple printing attempts, which unfortunately detracts from the beautiful overall appearance of the pawns

Don’t know what to say on that, there have been over 2000 downloads and no mention of that, what filament are you using?

I am using original Bambulab PLA Basic. This "defect" was only observed on the farmers, all other figures are absolutely flawless. I have copied a photo from the time-lapse video

The pieces turned out great! My board not so much but, I created that myself(Remix that is). I printed with the opening on the bottom for a 10mm nut but I can't find one that fits for the life of me. I've tried all the big box stores plus ordered a bunch off of amazon and still empty. I may need to re print and make them a bit larger or print without. Other than the nut, the print was awesome and they look great, thanks for the pieces!

You are very welcome, Yeah its strange that not all nut dimensions are not the same, the ones I bought were from Amazon UK, many thanks for downloading.

With the horse head, it's crucial to know which support to use With PLA filament, my prints came out well, whereas those using silk filaments, etc, the supports didn't work Simply select automatic tree supports in your slicer and the result should be perfect Thank you for downloading

Fantastic model! I only had some stringing issues, but I would say it's attributable to the humidity of my filament rather than a problem with the model

Hello, yes, it's unusual, I've never encountered any stringing, which is always my goal during design, it's not always possible to eliminate stringing but as long as it can be easily removed it shouldn't be a problem for the parts, it's far better than using supports Many thanks for the download
