Boost Me (for free)

Thanks for checking out my model. If my model was useful for you please consider boosting it. Boosts help me eventually get different model printers so I can test and create print profiles for other models.

Parametric Gridfinity model paint bottle holder

This parametric model generates paint bottle holders in various shapes and sizes that are compatible with gridfinity. The bottle slots are recessed into the gridfinity base to reduce the overall height to the minimum. Existing solutions wouldn't fit in my storage drawers, so I made these. The minimal slot design also reduces print cost and provides a grip to take the organiser out of the drawer.

You can customize the paint bottle radius, making the model compatible with any (round) bottle. Make sure to add a little bit of margin, according to your own print settings and prefered fit. I have tested the following paint bottle radius settings:

  • vallejo / scale75 / army painter / generic dropper bottle 25.5 mm
  • citadel 32.75 mm, this also works for citadel washes, contrast paints and technical paints
  • vallejo metal color 35.75 mm
  • AK interactive / green stuff world pigment bottles 34.75 mm
  • Amsterdam ink 44.6 mm (can be used on a 1x1 base, but the bottle will slightly overhang and the walls will be fragile)

The parametric model will fill the gridfinity base with as many bottle slots as are possible for the given dimensions.  Some optimal ratios are

2x2 bases for 25mm bottles (vallejo, army painter, scale75 etc.), fitting 9 bottles in 4 grid slots and 4x4 bases for citadel bottles, fitting 25 bottles in 16 grid slots.

Parameters

  • Paint bottle radius: The radius of the paint bottle slot in mm. You should add some margin (I recommend 0.5mm) compared to the radius of the bottle to account for variation. Tune this radius to get a fit with the tightness that you prefer. Suggested sizes for common paint bottles including margin: vallejo 25.5, citadel 32.75, metal color 35.75, AK pigment bottles 34.75, 44.6 amsterdam ink.
  • Bottle slot rim size: Size of the raised wall around the bottle slot in mm. Can be tuned to increase robustness, but the default of 0.75mm should be sufficient in combination with the default taper.
  • Bottle slot taper: Added thickness at the bottom of the raised wall in mm. This taper adds strength to the wall. The default of 1.5mm can be tuned down to decrease printing time and material. Setting to 0 results in a straight wall.
  • Bottle slot rim height: Height of the raised wall around the bottle slot, measured in mm from the top of the gridfinity base. The default of 16mm is sufficient for all bottles I have tested it with, but can be tuned according to your preference of stability and material cost.
  • Bottle slot depth: Depth of the recess in the gridfinity base in which the bottle sits. The default is 0.9mm. Can be tuned up to 1.4mm for lowest profile at the cost of floor strength (this will reduce the floor to one layer at some points, however the slot walls reinforce the model for it to hold together).
  • Gridx: How many gridfinity grid slots the holder will take in the x direction.
  • Gridy: How many gridfinity grid slots the holder will take in the y direction.

Code for generating the bases is taken from the gridfinity rebuilt project and used in accordance with the MIT license. For your convenience I have left in options to create magnet holes, but have not personally tested the generated models with those settings since I personally do not use magnets in my gridfinity setup.
