Description

A planetary gear with only 2 planets? Shouldn't that fall apart? The sun gear definitely can move sideways, but the assembly does not fall apart. This is indeed a strange thing - probably without any use other than being strange and thus somewhat interesting.

The hex holes fit typical hexagonal pencils.

If you like interesting uncommon gear fidget things, try the "binary sun gear".

Printing: The usual stuff works fine (0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height). I use random seams to avoid thick seam blobs though.

I uploaded 2 versions with different tolerances; the smaller one (tol15) should be fine with well tuned printers.

Dont ask for a video, just print it you lazy gits! and then make a video yourself if its that important ,and upload it in your own time!

could you upload a video of it working irl. I know it works in the simulation but I can't imagine how it would work in practice.

Hello, I'm sorry, but I guess just printing it is less work for you than making a video (and resize, maybe find out how to convert a video to an animated gif, upload etc.) is for me, so maybe just print it? It doesn't take much filament, you can directly try it hands-on, and I can use the time to design another model... I hope you won't be disappointed.

A GIF is worth a thousand words! Take a video with your smartphone and send it to your PC. With FormatFactory (free tool) it is very easy to convert the video into a GIF. Very intuitive just make sure your video is no longer than 30 seconds... Now we're all patiently waiting for your GIF...

"Print, or print not. There is no video", as Yoda once said, or something similar :) Seriously, I have put some time into designing that thing for you "to download or not to download" (as Shakespeare's Hamlet said, or something similar) for free. I prefer not putting more time into it by making a video (which I find needs some consideration about background and lighting and cropping and resizing and cutting – I do have standards ^_^ ), in which I don't find pleasure, but instead make more models, in which I do. And most others just seem to print it and find out themselves. (You can download it anonymously (i.e. lot logged in) without giving me a download point, if that is your concern.)

Fantastic idea, but a bit hard to roll

It feels like of course you would need a shaft and then you would need a linkage coming out of one of the other ones and some kind of a cam or follower perhaps. I'm trying to think of what practical applications I've seen this in but I'm not coming up with any of the top of my head
