Description

Boost Me (for free)

Support my work! ☕

Welcome to AeroHalo, a fully functional micro wind turbine that harvests wind energy to power a stunning LED ring! Perfect for bikes, balconies, or as an educational STEM project. Thanks to an integrated supercapacitor, it features a magical "fade-out" effect: the LED keeps glowing for up to 20 seconds even after the wind stops!

Printing

All the optimized settings are already included in the provided print profiles. Just select your filament and hit print!

Assembly Instructions

  1. Body Assembly: Connect the stator to the main central body using a drop of CA glue and the alignment keys.
  2. Space-Saving Soldering: To optimize internal space, solder the Schottky diode, the 10-ohm resistor, and the supercapacitor directly onto the Step-Up Boost module. Solder the Zener diode directly across the DC 130 motor terminals.
  3. LED Wiring: Route the output wires from the boost module through the internal duct to the front section. Solder them to the flexible LED. Glue the LED into its slot, then glue the front transparent dome over it.
  4. Motor & Fan: Insert the DC motor into its rear housing (add a tiny drop of glue for security, even though it's a tight friction fit). Attach the front rotor fan.
  5. Final Connection: Route the input wires from the Zener/Motor combo to the boost module board to complete the circuit.

Note: For the exact wiring diagram and the physical principles behind the energy harvesting circuit, please check the included AeroHalo.pdf engineering report in the files section!

Compact wind turbine, well designed and with a very scenic LED ring. The print settings are great judging by the pieces I printed. Great "fade-out" effect thanks to the supercapacitor! 👏

Hi, does this also work with the natural wind outside? So without a hairdryer or holding it out of the car window? But it's a really nice idea with the flexible LEDs

Hello and thank you! Yes, it works with natural wind, but it has to be strong enough. Standing still, you'd practically have to run at that speed for it to light up. In fact, the idea was born as an accessory for bicycles or scooters (which is why I integrated the universal GoPro mount): mounted on a moving vehicle, it gives the perfect result. Alternatively, when stationary, you need a sufficiently windy area!

Yes, it would probably work very well on a bicycle or scooter, it definitely looks very chic 👍
