Description

This is the V2 Large version of a gridfinity storage box project I've been working on for a few years. It's called The Schubox. Please read the following carefully - this is a very filament intensive project and the info below can help mitigate issues that may arise.

I highly suggest printing just the handle hinge and front handle first to verify pin fit before you commit to the base & lid.

This version only fits on H series printers. For the original 5x4 size that fits on all Bambu printers except the A1 Mini click here.

I always make updates after publishing any project so please read the update log down below. I've created a Patreon for updates and early release files for upcoming sizes and improvements.

What makes this storage box different?

  • Gridfinity inside (Not on the top or bottom for this large model)

  • One handed opening latch

  • Box stands freely on back edge (vertically)

  • Lid stops opening at a specific angle - does not fall all the way over

  • Uses durable pins for latch and hinges

  • Integrated drawer slide features in the sides of boxes (Drawer Frames are in a separate model page. Only for 9U!)

  • Has option for labels (additional labels on this large size!)

  • Boxes can stack & latch together for carrying multiple

  • Pivoting top handle for top carry

  • Pivoting front handle for front carry

  • Mounting plate that can be bolted or strapped

  • Surface and undermounting plates for the drawer system

  • Wall mount

  • 5X4 boxes stack & lock on top (6U and higher)

Gridfinity Specifications:

Gridfinity was started by Zack Freedman and you can learn more about the system here.

This box is 7 Units Wide, 6 Units Deep, and 9 Units tall. If this doesn't make sense to you… click that link above to learn about Gridfinity.

Please note that the outside of the box does not have gridfinity at this size!

If you print short bins - your stuff will go everywhere inside the case. If you print 9U bins with additional labels on top of the label shelf, they may not fit properly. My favorite bin generator is Perplexinglabs. Another option is Gridfinity Extended.

Materials required:

  • PETG HF Filament
  • 4dx40mm dowel pins (not stocked by bambu. Amazon or McMaster Carr are good US sources)
  • 6dx2mm magnets optional (Press fit or glued into bottom grid)

"Can I use PLA?"  Not recommended

Can I used regular PETG? Yes, but some of the 35 degree angles may have issues. Apply supports if needed. I'll build a profile for this soon.

Is there a bolt version coming? Yes!

Tools for assembly:

  • Channel lock pliers
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Flush cutters or utility blade
  • Files or drill can be helpful
  • Torch (to remove plate residue)

Printing specs:

Post Process:

Use a torch to lightly remove any plate residue on inside of lid.

Use flush cutters to remove the brim on the underside of the lid in all six locations:

Check the holes for the pins to see how well they printed. If they need to be drilled out or trimmed/filed slightly then do it - better than cracking a part.

Pins can be installed using channel lock pliers but I like to get them started with needle nose pliers. Make sure the pin is aligned well as you squeeze it in and take your time. Make sure the flat jaw of the channel locks is against the print - this prevents cracking the prints.

Assembly:

Beefy handle in progress - will launch by 4/24*

Troubleshooting:

If the pin isn't aligned well or the hole has not printed well, it may create a small split in the plastic. PETG HF material & 0.6mm nozzle is accounted for in the tolerances.

Loose filament along box drawer slides - can be a challenge. Sometimes standard or tree support is the solution here.

Warping: clean plate! dry material (ideally high flow). Use a brim if necessary.

If you don't calibrate your nozzle and filament you can run into issues like this. Dry your filament out of the box and calibrate your nozzle for it!

Left is after calibration (PETG-CF). Right is before (PETG-HF).

Drawer Frames:

Published Here!

Important! Drawer frames only exist for 9U right now. I don't know if larger ones are possible. Workin on it!

Planned Updates:

I plan to release other sizes and more accessories as usual. I continue to put a ridiculous amount of time into this project and hopefully that has been reflected in any of the other parts of the system you've tried out so far! Obviously ratings and boosts allow me to get more filament and repair my machines to develop more projects like this. If you want to buy me a coffee, here's a link. The more coffee I drink, the more efficient I am at life, the more iterations and updates these projects get.

I have a Patreon for support, detailed development updates, and access to early test files. More info here.

Update Log:

  • 4/11/2026: Public Launch
  • 4/13/2026: Corrected heights of tallest boxes 18U & 21U are tallest options right now.

Q&A:

Where are the drawer frames?

They are posted in a separate model page. Learned from the first launch that combining them into one model page creates organizational challenges.

Are these compatible with the V1 Large boxes?

No. I learned so much from the V2 [5x4] and the V1 Large that I had to adjust wall thicknesses and the top and bottom patterns. They will not stack together.

Are these compatible with the 5x4 boxes?

Yes, the 5x4 boxes can stack on top. They can also lock on top, although please do not use the 5X4 thin handle to carry the stack with V2 large boxes attached… it will break! I am working on a good carry solution but for a rolling stack, this should be helpful

Is this worth all the filament used?

That's entirely up to you! I find it worth it since it's gridfinity specific, I can print replacement parts, and I know they won't go out of stock or be discontinued.

Why pins and not printed hardware?

Many other boxes have printed hardware and some work, some do not. I never found them very durable over time. I use pins often in production products and they offer durability and smooth motion. They are inexpensive and easy to stock!

Can these be disassembled?

Drawer frames can be disassembled and reassembled. Boxes cannot - to salvage your pins if something breaks you need to break the hinges to get the pins out. I recommend a flathead screwdriver. Bolt options will be released soon for improved reparability.

Why high flow PETG?

There are some parts on this model that require bridging or stacking at aggressive angles. I haven't seen issues with high flow material. Others have reported issues with slower moving material and machines. If needed, generate support.

Where are the bins that go in these? These are designed for gridfinity stacking bins that follows standards.

Can I sell these?

Yes you can sell the physical prints if you wish as long as you subscribe to the correct commercial membership tier on my profile.
