Description

Congratulations on finally discovering FunOrNothing :)

Do you enjoy making things with your hands? If so, this design is just for you.

This model faithfully reproduces the structure of an actual oak barrel.

After assemble it, you can comfortably hold it by placing a cold beer can or beverage can in it. (or any other use)

While there are many models that mimic the barrel design, it's difficult to find one with the same structure as a real oak barrel.
I designed a barrel model that could be made using the same principles, drawing on the process used to make real oak barrels.

Assembling this design may require considerable concentration and dexterity, but the satisfaction you'll receive upon completion is immense.

Structurally identical to a real oak barrel, the process of making it is very similar.

The only difference is that it's meticulously designed to be much easier to build than a real oak barrel.

Assembly order

If you watch the video below while assembling it, it will be easy to understand and you can assemble it without much effort.

Insert the boards into the end ring one by one. The top and bottom of the end ring are different. Refer to the cross-section image below and pay attention to the orientation when assembling.

When all the panels are fitted onto one END RING, it will look like this:

Insert the base plate inside and press firmly from top to bottom to fit it in (there are 3 protrusions on the base plate. All protrusions must be inserted correctly.)

Fold all the boards and place them inside the remaining END RING, then insert them one by one into the correct position.

Assemble the two middle retaining rings as shown. The outside of the panel has a groove that secures the position of the retaining rings. (The sides of the retaining rings are slightly angled; align them with the angles on the panel.)

Congratulations!  You now have a perfect barrel.

Use it as a holder for canned beer or other beverages, or as a pen holder, or whatever you like.

Create your own panels in a variety of colors.

This design has zero tolerance (it snaps together due to the elasticity of the material). Therefore, it can be printed in any desired size and assembled, and can also be printed large enough to be used as a trash can, etc. (The photo below is magnified 150%.)

It is also much more robust because it does not rely on interlayer bonding, unlike other batch-printed basket types.

Because no adhesives are used, it is possible to disassemble and reassemble, and the assembly process itself can be enjoyed as a game. (For example, if you play rock-paper-scissors, the winner gets to assemble the panels one by one, and whoever wins gets to complete the barrel first...)

Precautions when printing enlarged output.

This design relies on the elasticity of the material (filament) for assembly. As the scale increases, the distance required for stretching increases, while the actual material's elasticity remains constant. Therefore, assembly may require proportionally greater force. The middle ring, in particular, may need to be printed slightly larger than the other parts. (While assembly was possible with very strong force at 150% scale-Like using a hammer when assembling an actual oak barrel, please ensure the middle ring is printed slightly larger for larger scales.)
