The "卍" character symbolizes auspicious sea clouds and auspicious swirling. In the Minnan region, new clothes for babies celebrating their full moon or first birthday are embroidered with the "卍" symbol; for newlywed couples, items like slippers, towels, clothes, and patterned handkerchiefs, anything that can be embroidered will be hand-stitched with the "卍" symbol. "The '卍" symbol is embroidered with red thread, and a small lead piece is pressed onto it. This lead piece is called 'qián qián' (lead money), and in Minnan dialect, 'qián' (lead) is a homophone for 'yuán' (affinity), expressing the wish for the bride and baby to 'be well-liked and cherished by others'."
