Description
S5-OP2: Dew Shield Module for Seestar S50
This modular system is designed to maximize the performance of the Seestar S50 by reducing stray light and light pollution from streetlights, the moon, and other sources. While the effects were subtle in my usual shooting environment (Bortle 5.1), rigorous testing under direct street lighting yielded excellent results. I am now releasing this system for all "Seesters" struggling with light pollution.
■ Model Lineup

Four types of modules are available to suit your shooting environment. They can be combined or adjusted in length by scaling the Z-axis in your slicer.
- Dew Shield 30 / 50
- Standard cylindrical shields. These basic models balance dew protection with stray light reduction.
- Scaling: You can adjust the length to your preference by changing the Z-axis value in the slicer.
- AGL 30 / 45 (Anti-Glare Lip)
- Function: The protruding "Lip" physically blocks intense light sources positioned at angles greater than 30 or 45 degrees from the lens.
- AGL 30: Sleekly cuts shallow-angle light. A perfect balance of compactness and protection.
- AGL 45: Designed for extreme conditions, such as having a powerful streetlight in close proximity.
※CAUTION: To avoid mechanical failure, always remember to remove the module before the Seestar powers down and stows the lens.
■ Recommended Print Settings
The print sequence is set to "By Object" to eliminate stringing inside the shield.
- Layer Height: 0.2mm
- Wall Loops: 2
- Infill: 15%

- Others: Brim enabled for Plate 1 (Shields), Supports enabled for Plate 2 (Lips).
■ For Extreme Performance: Dark Coating Recommended
To unlock the full potential of this module, I highly recommend "Ultra-Black Coating" on the interior surfaces. By combining the physical "Shielding" with light-absorbing "Black Paint," you can achieve unprecedented contrast. Even if you use Matte Black PLA filament, applying a specialized low-reflection paint (like Musou Black or similar) will significantly improve the results.
■ Verification Data (Sample Images)
Comparative tests were conducted under a single LED streetlight at a distance of 20m, using 6-minute RAW stacks (unprocessed). From left to right: [Stock] [Shield 50] [Shield 50 + Black Paint] [Shield 50 + AGL + Black Paint]
- NGC 869 (Double Cluster): Filter Off
- NGC 281 (Pacman Nebula): Filter On

The images clearly demonstrate the synergy between physical shielding and dark coating. Note: Using AGL without coating may cause internal reflections on the lip. Painting is strongly recommended for AGL models.
■ Customization & Expandability

The inner diameter of the shield tip is designed to match the Seestar S50 lens diameter. This allows you to stack AGLips or multiple shields, and it is fully compatible with my S5-OP (Diffraction Spikes & Focus Tools) masks.
Mix and match to build your ultimate shooting setup!
