This is a filament change test swatch (often called "filament swatch" or "multi-color test tile"). It is a flat, square-shaped object with rounded corners, internally divided into four distinct sections
What is it used for to test the AMS?
The main purpose of this piece is not aesthetics, but rather to verify the mechanical and software performance of the loading system:
- Color Bleeding Verification (Contamination): It is used to check if the transition from a dark color (like purple or green) to a light one (white or yellow) occurs cleanly. If the "flushing" (purge) settings are insufficient, the white might appear dirty or faded.
- Change Reliability (Retraction/Load): To print this piece, the AMS must perform numerous filament unloading and loading cycles. It is an excellent stress test to see if the system jams or if the sensors correctly detect the passage of different materials.
- Adhesion Between Materials: Even if the same type of plastic is usually used (e.g., all PLA), this test confirms that the different colors blend well with each other at the lateral joint points.
- First Layer Calibration: Being a low and wide piece, it allows you to immediately see if the bed is correctly leveled for all involved colors.
