Description

This simple lenticular lens creates an optical illusion that hides objects in one direction while revealing them in another. For example, a pencil placed behind the lens will be visible when oriented vertically, but will "disappear" when turned horizontally!

 

 

✨ How it works: The magic isn't in the geometry—it's in the print settings. The horizontal layer lines create the lenticular ridges that bend light to produce the invisibility effect. The included print profile has all the critical settings dialed in.

 

Printing Instructions:

  • Must be printed standing upright on its edge (not flat on the bed)
  • Scale only in X and Z directions to your desired lens size—do NOT scale Y (depth must remain thin for the optics to work)
  • Use the included print profile—the layer height, extrusion width, and other settings are essential to the optical effect

Filament: I used Copymaster3D transparent PLA with excellent results. Other transparent filaments may work, but YMMV—the optical clarity and print characteristics will affect the final result.

 

🎯 Pro tip: Experiment with different sizes to find what works best for your use case. The effect is quite impressive when properly scaled!
