Overview

Following the One Year War, the Federation military undertook several refits of the Salamis-class cruiser. Two of these were particularly significant: The first, after the war's conclusion, involved a rebuild of the Federation space forces, strengthening armament and propulsion systems for enhanced endurance. This modification, however, did not improve MS carrying capacity, leading to poor performance during the Delaz Rebellion, resulting in the class's virtual disappearance before the Gryps War. In the mid-1980s, a substantial refit focused on MS capacity was undertaken (highlighting the Salamis's adaptability and ease of redesign), increasing MS payload to as many as nine units, thus ensuring its continued use until the Battle of the Cosmic Babylon.

Between UC0080 and UC0083, the Salamis cruiser underwent its first major overhaul. Federation high command deemed a complete refit necessary, assigning engineers to redesign the vessel. Upon completion, the redesigned vessel entered mass production and service in UC0083. The Salamis-class cruiser 0083 version represented a significantly more potent and advanced variant. The refit addressed three primary shortcomings of the original Salamis: inadequate firepower, slow speed (the original Salamis had only one engine), and deficient anti-MS defense systems. Using the Magellan-class battleship as a design blueprint, engineers embarked on the extensive Salamis refit. These modified Salamis-class cruisers were reviewed at Campbel Island in UC0083, intended to demonstrate the Earth Federation's recovery from the devastating losses of the One Year War. During this review, the stolen RX-78GP02A Physalis launched a nuclear strike, decimating the Federation fleet. Many newly refitted Salamis cruisers were destroyed or rendered unusable. The remaining, repaired Salamis units were deployed against the Delaz Fleet, many subsequently sunk by Zeon remnant MS units and the AMX-002 Qubeley. The poor performance during Operation Stardust led the Earth Federation to scrap the UC0083 Salamis refit program. Federation engineers subsequently began designing new cruisers to replace the modified Salamis.

This model is a late-production upgrade of the Salamis-class cruiser, approximately 12 cm in length, with modifications to some components for miniaturization. When printing, orient the model vertically. Support structures are densely packed at the rear of the bridge; exercise caution during removal to prevent breakage. If using PETG, adjust the Z-distance of the upper support to facilitate removal based on your material.

Assemble your fleet and relive the nightmare of Solomon!
