Chaos Pendulum
The Chaos Pendulum is a fascinating 3D printable design that demonstrates chaotic motion through a carefully balanced mechanism. It uses 608 bearings for smooth operation and stability. Additional 608 bearings are used as counterweights to extend the pendulum’s motion duration.
Key Features:
• Adjustable Arms:
Each arm must be individually balanced using the bearings, starting with the outermost arm. The arms should be nearly neutral, swinging slowly and smoothly for the best effect.
• Bearing Maintenance:
If you use sealed bearings, the seals must be removed. Clean the bearings thoroughly with brake cleaner, and then apply lubricant for optimal performance.
• Mounting Options:
The base plate can be secured using 5x5x5mm or 6x3mm round magnets. Alternatively, double-sided adhesive tape can also be used for mounting on non-metallic surfaces.
•Assembly:
Insert the pin into the hole and secure it with glue.
The bearing should hold with friction fit. If not add glue.
Glue the magnets into the base or add doublesided tape.
This design offers a mesmerizing display of chaotic motion while being simple to assemble and customize. Perfect for educational purposes or as a unique desk ornament!
