Breaking News…

You spoke, I listened (and maybe overthought it a little). Due to popular demand, I’m thrilled to announce new profiles for both regular-mouth and wide-mouth mason jars! These new sweet dispensers are larger than the original—meaning more sweets per serving. And let’s be honest, who’s complaining about that? Certainly not me.

In the background, I’m tinkering away on alternative designs. If you’d like to see models closer to the original size (and kinder on your filament stash) that still fit the new jar sizes, let me know!

Oh, and because I can’t resist a side project no one asked for, I’ve also been working on what I’m calling a “sweet jossler.” It’s a little update connected to the dispenser wheel to jiggle the sweets in the jar, preventing them from jamming up in the neck. (Yes, it’s a pun. No, I’m not sorry.) If enough of you like this idea, I’ll work it into a future design—though fair warning, it’ll mean a full re-print.

As always, your feedback is sweeter than the sweets themselves, so keep it coming!

Another quirky concoction from Watson’s Lab!

This time, I’ve transformed the humble jam jar (or jelly jar, for our friends across the pond) into a sweet-tastic dispenser! Whether you call it candy or sweets, you get the idea—fun and functionality all in one delightful creation.

The design works with a pretty common jam jar size here in the UK, with an opening of about 59mm (2.3"). So, raid your recycling bin, rescue a jar, and give it a new lease of life as a sugar-fueled centerpiece!

I had a blast putting this together, and I hope you’ll enjoy it just as much. There’s even a snazzy little GIF to guide you through assembly. After that, it’s as simple as filling it up with your favorite treats and indulging in the sweetness of success.

Because nothing says "maker magic" quite like turning trash into treasure... with sugar on top. 😊

If enough of you lovely folks would like another size opening to accommodate a larger size jar, I’d be more than happy to whip up a remix! Just let me know—I’m all about making things work for everyone 😊

Hey everyone! 🛠️✨ If you're enjoying my little corner of Makerworld, 'Watson's Lab,' I’d be over the moon if you could give it a boost. It’s like adding a turbocharger to my creative engine—faster, stronger, and maybe with a tiny chance of explosion (just kidding... hopefully 😅).
Thanks a million for your support—you’re the real MVPs of my maker journey!

Once upon a time, when Thingiverse had about 100 projects and half of them were for woodworking, I uploaded a candy dispenser that used small glass jars. It had to fit a 100x100mm "Portabee" 3D printer bed and had to be made with the free version of SketchUp. It was the most complex project I had ever created at that time, and I was totally inexperienced. The thick 3mm filament oozed everywhere, and my naive design required an incredibly wasteful amount of plastic; it took me ages to print that thing, but what satisfaction! Looking at your project today, I thought: how much time has passed! And now it's better that I don't eat sweets anymore! ;) Your dispenser is really well made and very cute.

Thank you, @beares, for sharing your story—it resonates deeply with my own journey. From the tiniest acorn grows the mightiest oak, and I still very much see myself at the acorn stage. That said, I’m having an incredible amount of fun along the way! My mind is brimming with ideas—some realistic, others perhaps a bit ambitious—but one thing is certain: I’m absolutely determined to give them all a go. Platforms like this make the process even more exhilarating, and stories like yours are both inspiring and reassuring. Thank you again for sharing!

Mason jars have two main opening sizes: regular mouth and wide mouth. The outer diameter of a regular mouth mason jar is 2.75 inches, while a wide mouth mason jar has an outer diameter of 3.38 inches. These would be the most useful size in the US!

Thanks for the info—I can definitely work with this. Mason jars seem like they'd be a great universal standard and likely very popular.

I live in the US and printed this (great design!) but then discovered none of my jars fit. Would love an upscaled design, but I will also try to resize and reprint later.

With the current print profile, I wouldn't recommend it; it's not good and requires significant post-processing, I'm still a complete beginner

Oh wow, that's absolutely amazing! Before I came up with the jam jar design, I was actually considering using clear filament to make a globe as well. Seeing how beautifully yours turned out, I’m even more inspired—it looks fantastic! ✨

Oh, that’s brilliant! Glad you removed them before fitting it to the dispenser—can you imagine it trying to dispense mashed potatoes? That would be quite the spectacle! 😄

Good to know. I don't live in the US, but I order a lot of "Vlasich", as we call it here, Zesty Bread & Butter Chips 24 oz. and Heinz Hotdog Relish 10oz. Hopefully the new sizes will fit.

For Australia, a Hexagon shaped Pickled Pepper jar is a go. I'm sure if you snoop around the pickled Jalapeño section at Woolies you'd find the jar. I have an excellent Salsa Recipe that goes along with it. Thanks for the model mate. The grandkids will love it I'm sure.

I've just ordered two sets of Mason jars from Amazon to test out my redesigns. Once I confirm everything fits perfectly, I'll be releasing the models here. If all goes to plan, they should be uploaded by the end of the 18th. Stay tuned!
