I got fed up of storing full size cardboard spools with only a tiny amount of filament left on them, so I've designed a small spool that fits the Bambu reusable spools in the same way as a refill. I'd estimate the approx capacity around 350g - there is a photo showing an exact 250g in the gallery, but its admittedly not perfectly neat so you can probably do better if you try.
It has the following features:
a) Spool prints in two parts on a single plate within my P1S (approx 70g of filament needed). These parts should hold together by friction fit, but I've been adding a couple of drops of super glue to be certain.
b) There is a “grip” on the inner surface to hold the end of filament without the need for either harsh bends or tape.
c) I've included push fit tags to mark the filament type being stored - while the photos show these as a single colour in practice I print these in different colours by type to make ID even quicker.
Thats it really - hopefully helpful and cuts down on storage space. I'd recommend printing in PETG, ABS or ASA as PLA might deform during a drying cycle.
