Description

Our Playdoh kit was missing an extruder.. so I designed one! It just so happens that PLA doesn't stick very well to Playdoh which makes it a perfect choice for this application. Unfortunately I only had this boring blue-gray filament kicking around.. but I'm sure that some other colour choice would really make this pop! The extruder barrel even has some star imprints on it which can be used to texturize your Playdoh creations! Quick Tip - Once printed run the strip through the tabs a few times until it starts sliding smoothly and you're good to go!

If you like this print don't forget to rate, comment and boost!

Enjoy!

Update [2025-01-15]: Adjusted tab width to increase strength. Print can now also be printed without any supports! Also improved print quality with variable layer height. If you had already printed the full set and want to upgrade to V2, you just need to print the new main barrel and you're good to go!

Update [2025-01-17]: Increased Wall loop from 3 to 4. Reverted back to 0.2mm layer height for improved adhesion.

All good. Removing the support was not that hard.

Hasn’t happened to me yet but the wall thickness is a bit thin there. I’ll look a updating the model to improve this. Could also try printing it with PETG. Stay tuned.

Strength Issue:Update* it seems to be working now with the following settings printed in PLA+ (5 outer walls, 50% infill gyroid)

oh that’s unfortunate. What filament did you use? What nozzle diameter & what printer so you have?

So you’re using PETG Pro, you could maybe try again with BL PLA? I’m getting good layer adhesion with BL Basic PLA and don’t have that issue ( We’ve been using our playdoh extruder for about a month now). It could work with a different filament but you’ll want to make sure to modify the print profile with the proper print settings for your filament.

I have some PLA+ I can use. I tried the PETG due to others having issues with layer adhesion and you had hinted at trying PETG.

not great at all.. the plunger is not smooth and the supports for the track is not smooth due to the supports being on too tight from of the profile settings, but thanks for the upload

Unfortunate to hear as I did print a few trials to get the tolerancing right. May I ask which printer you’re using? Perhaps simply scaling the piston down a bit might help for you. Yes you have to make sure the supports are properly removed but I found that pretty easy to do with a pair of needle noze pliers and a flat screw driver to scrape off any excess. Also, once the Playdoh is loaded in the syringe it should run pretty smoothly as the Playdoh is acting like a bit of a lubricant against the piston. Cheers!

Yeah should work just fine. Try it out with playdoh and make sure all the supports are off. Like the description says, I run the strip through a few times after removing the supports and have no issues. I’ve printed 3 of them now with my A1. Hopefully it works better for you after that. Let me know!

Any suggestions to make it a 5 star? :)

if there were a little piece to get the playdoh out of the nooks and crannies, specifically the "noodle" slot, it would be overall great! I think the print itself is great, just had to go rummage for something to get the little pieces out of tight spots so It didn't harden and ruin it,
