Description

These Pieces are my 5th variation of Chess pieces and as I continue to improve at the design stage I feel that I can push the boundaries a little more of printing without support, using supports often spoils the aesthetic look of the pieces IMHO.

These V5 Chess Pieces are made from a classic chess base shape with 6 columns as the center piece of the pieces, these columns support the top part of the various chess pieces, using these columns allows light to pass through giving a dynamic effect on the board.

The King is 95mm to the top of the cross with the rest of the pieces scaled from that.

Thought is given to the top of the columns where it meets the main part of the piece avoiding the use of support which would spoil the pieces.

The knight is the same one as I have used in a previous set this is in 2 pieces but I have split the base into 6 segments to mimic the centre columns just to make it a bit different, the knights head prints on a separate build plate with minimal tree supports which are easily removed with no or very little clean up.

I always print the pieces to prove that they can be printed, I haven't printed a full set as I don't need them, but the Print profile is for the full set plus I include the files for the individual pieces.

I am liking the BambuLab White Marble and Black Sparkle for the chess pieces, I think its a great combination.

Printed with the BambuLab X1 Carbon on a PEI Textured build plate.

Another chess set which I have loved designing and Printing.

Thanks for Looking.

Some parts detached from the bed, but not due to a model flaw, so I recommend it Very beautiful parts

That’s odd, there have been many downloads an no mention of that happening, try downloading the file for the knight and upping tree support slightly, mine turned out perfect, my X1 carbon is calibrated each time I print a model

What kind of sweet talking do I need to do to maybe possibly have you make a profile of these with a void for inserting magnets at a pause? LOL

No sweet talking needed, I still have the files so thats quite an easy ask, what magnet size magnets are you thinking? I have quite a few Neodymium magnets, probably around 10mm x 1 or 2mm ? I could use as a template, these are easily available on Amazon and such.

Probably a little smaller. something like 6x3mm? I make these for a buddy of mine that makes custom chess boards and his concern is picking a piece up off the board and another piece getting sucked up to it, if that makes sense. LOL

All right, 6 x 3mm it is, no problem

Do you have a version of these without the hole for a hardware store nut in the bottom?

Hi there, I don't have a version but I still have the files for the pieces, I will create a set without the nut recess and list as a separate profile, I will send a link when its uploaded, cheers

That would be awesome. I like the looks of these the best out of all of them I’ve been looking at. Just too light for me. would love to be able to print with the bottom at 100% infill for more weight, without having to buy parts. Thanks! I’ll be on the look out for them!

I am printing in regular PLA, everything turned out well except for the knight piece. It keeps knocking over the supports and I end up with a spaghetti mess. I have tried this print about 6 times and cannot get it to work

Hi, all I can add it that you turn on auto tree supports in the slicer, mine turned out perfect as in the images, someone did have an issue with the knight but they were using PLA Silk. I calibrate my X1 Carbon before every print as well, takes a bit longer but it’s worth it 👍

Try checkmarking the setting avoid crossing walls and set it to 100%

Bed Adhesion Issue: that's all

Hi, there have been over 200 downloads with no bed adhesion issues, not sure what your issue is.

Not sure. I clean my plate after every print and this is the first unsuccessful print I've ever had. If I try again I'll use glue but I've never had to use it before.

That's very odd, I use the textured PEI plate with no issues, for wider prints I use 3D Laq, hope it works out for you.

Very nice set. I'm having trouble finding hex nuts to fit the bottom though. I was not able to find one at Home Depot - the M10 sized hex nuts I got were just slightly too large to fit, and the next size smaller is way too small. I printed them in bambu lab white marble and bambu lab basic black on my a1 printer

Hi Jon, I purchased the nuts I used from Amazon UK this is the link for them https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DCZCCHQH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&;th=1 Hope this helps. I didn't that there would be much difference in a 10mm nut to be honest, should be pretty much standard.

Yeah, I assumed it would be standard also... Appreciate the link but I'm in Canada, plus I think I'll just try another hardware store with the piece in hand. Also want to cut & glue felt to the bottom.

I still have the files for the chess pieces, if you can get me a dimension for the nuts you can get hold of in millimeters I would be happy to add a profile to suit if that helps.
