Description

Hey Guys!

Since my UFO Hovercraft worked pretty well I wanted to design an ordinary Hovercraft with a spinning propeller.

It was tricky to get the propeller to spin, but this is what I came up with!

This Hovercraft has one tunnel for float, one for drive, the one for the drive/thrust also spins the propeller.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • the actual flight depends much on the balloon you chose. A smaller balloon with high pressure will deliver a more straight flight with more thrust, but the whole ride is shorter.
  • a beginner balloon wont deliver that much thrust and the hovercraft will float more or less on one place taking turns
  • If the pressure of the balloon is to low, it may not even float
  • make sure the balloon doesnt touch the ground, this will result in the hovercraft not floating right.
  • If you are annoyed by pulling of and on the balloon: just keep it on the hovercraft, cover the thrust hole and blow right into the buttom hole to blow up the balloon.

These differences in flight behaviour make this model interesting for physics class to train observation.

The assembly is easy and can be watched in this video:

If you dont have an AMS, there ist one print profile with pause for one manual colour change.

If you like this model, consider boosting it to help me out with filament :)

If you like this model you might want to check out my Hovercraft UFOs, they allow different flight behaviours: https://makerworld.com/en/models/926926#profileId-890067

UPDATE:

  • I just added the files and print profile with a longer pipe, so it is more stable for heavy/big balloons.

The rotor is not working with the cage it just drops off because hole is too big... Tried multiple files and settings and it keeps being to big...

Hi! Sorry to hear that, i only have heard before that the pin is to big, not the other way around. Did you download the files or used the print profile?

Hi, I tried both and with different layer hights too. It is not much that is missing. Maybe some kind of underextrusion maybe, but I'm suggesting you add one more file with a slightly different radius. Maybe 0.025-0.05 less for the rotor hole? Would be great because I love the idea!

Is it possible to upload different tolerances so I can finally finish my model? Either a larger hole or a thicker end on the rotor cage Thank you and best regards

Thank you very much! Did it work for you? I only ask because of course I can only see if it works on my printers ^

@DIYWizard I still need to find a balloon :)

so I just tested. it does work and float, but it tends to spin around for the most part. two forward thrust holes at the back might stabilize it.

Oh no, can you tell me what the problem is? With which printer did you print?

The size of the balloon also plays a big role

Bambu Labs A-1 I think i was using a 12in balloon the balloon would fall over and then it just would not move and it was not hovoring well... if you have a fix please tell me!

Propeller didn’t spin from balloon power

THanks for the comment! sometimes it needs a little push with the finger to start, if it's in a bad position.

What is this piece used for?

Hi! That is called the ptime tower, it is not part of the model but the printer does this so after a filament change it makes clear the nozzle is clear, the flow is correct and the next layer just prints with the new Filament, non of the previous. You can throw it away^^

Clean print and everything works, even the propeller runs smoothly I just need a different balloon with a shorter neck, as this one bends and blocks the hovercraft
