Description

A palette station for the artist in your family. Ideal for detailed work such as Warhammer.

Features:

  • Two water pots (one for clean water, one for washing brushes)
  • Clean brush stand
  • Used brush supports
  • Small mixing area x 12
  • Large mixing area

This model is available in two sizes. I'd recommend printing the 'large' size, but the ‘small’ version is good for miniature Warhammer and similar projects.

Water pots

Water pots

These are optional: you could just pour water into the squares in the middle of the model, however if you use these drop-in pots then it is easier to change the water when it gets dirty.

The pots have a rough area on the inside back surface, to allow you to quickly squeeze off excess water.

The curved recesses on the top sides are so you can rest a brush on it without it rolling off.

Is it waterproof? (yes)

People sometimes worry that 3D prints won't hold water, but testing has shown this - even in PLA - holds water fine and doesn't leak.

Having said that, you may want to varnish the pots and the mixing areas with your normal artist's varnish, to make it a little easier to clean up, as over time strong colors may stain the palette and be hard to get out.

Clean brush stand

This area is for holding your clean brushes. Yes, you can also push the brushes horizontally through the side holes too!

Used brush support

This is somewhere to place the brush you are working with, to keep the wet brush away from other brushes, or from anything else that doesn't want paint on it. (The top of the water pots also have a recess to allow a brush to be left on it without risk of it rolling off.)

Paint mixing areas

There are two mixing areas: a set of 12 small areas:

and a single larger area:

Printing - Plates and Versions

The 3MF file contains several plates:

One contains the 'small' version.

One plate contains the ‘large’ version of the model, for printing in a single color. Note it's sensible to print it in white so when you mix translucent colors they are shown similar to how they will when on the canvas.

The large 2-color plate contains the large model, but with modifiers to highlight the edges of the mixing areas in a different filament color. Not strictly necessary, but makes it look smarter!

The final plates contain the pots for the two model sizes. You'll want to print two pots, but there's only one on the plate so you can easily print one in one color and one in another.

The model prints well in basic PLA.
