Description

Infinity Cube V4

This is the ultimate Infinity Cube experience you’ve been waiting for! I’ve designed Version 4 with unmatched customization and variety—now featuring 18 distinct variations in a single, easy-to-manage 3MF file.

To preserve the iconic feel of the Infinity Cube, its overall shape remains unchanged, but the hinge system—the heart of its performance—has been completely redesigned from the ground up. Every aspect of the hinges has been reimagined and optimized, ensuring maximum printability, stability, and smooth functionality for all variations and printing methods.

What’s New?

Comprehensive Testing Before You Print

Special tolerance test pieces are included so you can fine-tune your printer settings before committing to a full cube—saving both time and filament.

Enhanced Hinges

I’ve completely redesigned the hinges for better printing stability and smoother movement.

Variable Infill Options

  • 15% infill for a light, fast feel
  • 100% infill for a sturdy, luxurious feel

Adjustable Hinge Play

  • 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, or 0.4 mm hinge clearance to achieve the perfect fit.

Eighteen Unique Possibilities

By mixing three cube types (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3), two infill settings (15% or 100%), and three hinge clearances (0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm), you can create 18 unique Infinity Cube variations. To keep it simple, all variants are included in a single 3MF file, so you can easily manage your favorite configurations!

Type 1

  • The Standard: Well-rounded edges for a comfortable feel.
  • Ideal for small/medium hand sizes.

Type 2

  • Slightly Flatter Edges: A blend of rounded and flat edges.
  • Great for those with bigger hands who want more surface area.

Type 3

  • Chamfered Edges: Enhanced grip and improved printability.
  • Angled edges that elevate both function and form.

Little stiff to start works great now.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it after breaking it in a bit! If it feels too tight, you might want to try printing it with larger tolerances. For example, if you used the 0.3mm version, give the 0.4mm version a try for a looser fit. That should make assembly and movement much easier!

Left a bit of stringing on one side of the hinges (see photo). Otherwise a great print. Doesn't effect performance. Just the looks

Thank you for the feedback! The issue with those stringy hinges is that to allow for free movement, they must be printed "in thin air," which unfortunately compromises the surface quality. I'm aware of this design flaw and am already exploring ways to make the hinges interchangeable, which should help avoid this issue in the future.

100% infill and 0.3 are the best settings for me.

did .4mm tolerance 100% infill in translucent pla turned out awesome after the initial “crack” of the floating hinges - it’s so good

This is a great print! It printed very nicely on my P1S. Fun and smooth to play with. You can tell the designer put a lot of work into this.

Can you discuss how your design differs from the current most popular infinity cube? https://makerworld.com/en/models/505390#profileId-421056

After reviewing his design, I can confidently share why I believe my cube design is "superior" in my opinion: 1. Versatile Hinges: My design features multiple hinge types optimized for print in place. This ensures clean, stable prints. 2. Reinforced Hinges: The hinges in my design have thicker bases, making them significantly sturdier and more durable. 3. Solid Construction: Unlike the other design, my hinges lack large holes, which provides additional stability and strength. 4. Optimized Side Hinges: The side hinges in my design are printed at a 45-degree angle. This angle is within the specs of most 3D printers, ensuring a clean overhang and resulting in smoother, more stable hinges. They’re also easier to break in while maintaining tight tolerances. The other design uses much steeper angles, which can be challenging for many printers. 5. Stable Center Hinges: My center hinges are designed with no critical stability parts being printed in mid-air. This contrasts with the other design you sent me, which relies on unsupported sections, potentially compromising stability. As you can see in the picture, there are also significant visual differences between the two designs. My cube is on the left for comparison.

Printed great. I've been using this item often since I printed it and it's functionally much more smooth than when it printed, as expected. Two thumbs up!

Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad the cube is breaking in so quickly. That’s one of the great things about PLA: its softness helps give you that smooth, hinge-like feel without too much wear-in time.

great, though, the henges aren't that good, and the way that 2d printing works, the henges have an ugly bottom. The henges are hard to move at first but they eventually become easier to move after some play.

Thank you for the feedback! Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done about the unattractive bottom of two of the hinges. However, the issue of them being too stiff can be easily resolved by printing the test piece I shared. This will help you determine the correct tolerances for your specific printer and ensure a better fit. I hope this solution works well for you! Let me know if you have further questions or need assistance.
