@agerhard has created a superb draining tray, lacking only a suitable catch basin. I have now remedied this.

To ensure the tray is truly waterproof, it should be coated with varnish or a similar substance. Multiple coats are recommended.

However, it can also be used for many other purposes, such as a desk or shelf tidy.
