Description

Small iris box with 10 or 6 leaves

No Glue no additional steps

  1. Just Clip the leaves in by moving from the outside in and then press down over the pin.
  2. Align them on the rim so they overlap the next.
  3. Press the Ring on with a slight rotation so the leaves nib can align and find their groove.

The leaves have a tight fit and can only be inserted by moving from the outside in, as the lip needs to enter the hole first.

Really wanted to love this, but the leaves didn't fit onto the pins (I bore them out to get them on, though), and even once they were on, the lid didn't go on over it. I ended up tossing all the leaves and just keeping the box (which still looks good) with the lid (that also doesn't twist, so would not have worked to activate the iris).

Did you use the provided print profile? 80μm layer? Printed in PETG? The holes are smaller because they clip into a groove of the pin. Also measure the blades if they are not thicker 0.6mm. It sounds like you have over extrusion and need more clearance to get the mechanism working.

I believe so? I'm still very new to this, so it is possible it's my bad, but I've been able to figure out most of the other issues over run into. I did print in petg

if you have a caliper you can measure the parts. The box is ∅50mm, the groove ∅49mm, The ring inner diameter is ∅50.3mm, the lip is ∅49.3mm. If you have an aligned seam this can already cause problems but with bit sanding and grease this can still work. The pins are ∅3.5mm but this is difficult to measure. The leaves have holes (lip) 3.15mm You can try printing a clearance test (not print in place!) and 0.15 should pass.
