Description

Tube man is driven by an internal cam shaft that rotates as you twist the base. Cam lobes push the main tube components left and right while the main tube components slide within channels on the top and bottom of each component.

I printed this on a P1P, but all parts can be printed with the A1 mini as well. Print profile would just need to be altered slightly. If printing with an AMS, I included a “flush frisbee” for the eyes and mouth main tube components plate to try to help lower the flush amount. It may not fly very well, but it can also be used as a coaster. This can be deleted if unwanted.

Assembly instructions are below.

Before beginning, I recommend screwing and unscrewing the gear base bottom and hair top to the main gear shaft at least a few times to break in the threads. This will ease screwing in later steps. If it's difficult to keep p1 and p2 of the gear shaft aligned, a cam lobe or two can be temporarily installed to keep both halves of the gear shaft in place. Cam lobes also fit fairly tight after they're printed. These can also be slide on and off a few times at this point to ease installation at later steps.

Afterwards, screw the gear base bottom to the main gear shaft and slide on the gear base top. Ensure that the gear base top channels are facing up.

Cam lobes are installed in pairs. The first of the pair is installed upside down while the second of the pair is installed right-side up. Using the slit at the back of the cam lobe, ensure that both lobes in the pair are aligned to the same gear tooth.

All remaining cam lobe pairs are installed in a similar fashion with each lobe pair being offset from the previous lobe pair by one gear tooth.

Complete cam shaft should look like the following.

Main tube components are then installed. Ensure that the channels of each are aligned.

Spacer is then installed once all tube components are installed, and the hair top is screwed in afterwards.

Have fun!

Great design. I had to use gold for the hair but it came out well.

This is just awesome. I’ve always had to call out the WWIAFTM whenever I see them. Now I have a working one on my desk!
