Description

Just got the A1 Mini, and it came with standard hex wrenches, not ‘fancy’ molded handles like those that came with the A1.

I Created a quick model in Tinkercad and paused the print half way through, popped in the key, finished the print and voila! a fancy molded handle for the A1 mini keys too.

Instructions:

  • Make sure your key is pretty close to a right angle. Hold it along a square table edge to check. Some minor tweaking with a pair of pliers might be necessary
  • Slice desired plate (2mm  is the larger key, 1.5mm is the smaller.
  • Begin print
  • My profile has the pauses built in. When the printer pauses, snap the key into the two parts of the half finished print, both the handle and the block for the long end of the handle. Give the key a good press at the handle and the block; it should snap into place and should be mostly below the surface of the print both at the handle and the holding block
  • Continue print

There are two styles:

Simple Style: This is the original. It is a simple smooth handle

Bambu Style: I created a profile as a request from @user_3887032648. the printed handles that more closely matches the ones supplied with the A1. These should fit the toolkits more closely than the simpler original style. The A1 Mini wrenches do have a shorter short side, so IDK if that will have an impact on your particular use case.

Print the one you like best :)

*** IMPORTANT NOTE ON PROFILES WITH BOTH WRENCHES ON ONE PLATE ***

As a request, I created profiles that prints both wrenches onto a single plate.

If you use a “both on one plate” profile, THERE WILL BE TWO PAUSES.

  • On the FIRST PAUSE, place the SMALL WRENCH
  • Resume Print
  • On the SECOND PAUSE, place the LARGE WRENCH
  • Resume print

If you place the large wrench in the first pause, THE PRINT HEAD WILL COLLIDE with the large wrench and potentially cause damage to your plate or machine. Please be aware and wait until the second pause to place the large wrench.

my a1 mini didn't come with the fancy handles, so the hex keys looked weird in the toolbox i printed. tried other handles before, but they were too big. saw another review with the same toolbox as me, so decided to give it a go. worked perfect!! thanks a bunch

You got the A1 combo and plain hex wrenches? Glad this helped. We can't have plain wrenches with our high tech replicator technology :)

Not seeing the pause in the slicer (orca)

You're using Orca. Bambu Studio recognizes the pauses in the .3MF files. I don't use Orca, but if you can add pauses, the simple style small wrench needs to pause at 2.6mm, the large at 3.4mm. The bambu style small wrench needs a pause at 3.2mm and the large at 4.2mm.

It is said that if at first you dont prevail to try again. Well, after trying to add pauses and downloading the 3mf file (after downloading the stl) and opening the 3mf file in bambu and orca (both showed the pauses). the STL file doesnt have the pauses in either program. However, after setting up the file to print in bambu....lets just say it wasnt pretty! I tried 4 different times! twice with PLA and twice with PETG.....nope, its not working for me...this is PLA n the pic....

The STL file will never have the pauses, that is just the 3d model file. The .3mf file is a package that contains the stl file as well as material properties, colors, textures, and slicing settings. These slicer settings include the pauses. If you open the provided .3mf files directly into bambu studio, you will remove a large part of the problems you are creating for yourself. It's odd that in the picture you posted, the large handle seems to have printed well, but the small wrench handle looks terrible. The most common printing errors I have seen occur form poor plate adhesion resulting in the print getting pushed around. This can usually be solved by cleaning the plate properly with plain dish soap and warm water. A third issue I've seen is that the actual filament material you are using doesn't match the filament material selected on the device page in Bambu Studio. If you tell Bambu Studio that you are using PLA (or PLA silk, or whatever), but the filament that you are actually inserting into the machine is something else, you could have print issues. I don't know if this is your issue, but throwing it out there. TLDR: My advise is: 1. clean the build plate using these instructions: https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/knowledge-sharing/inconsistent-adhesion-on-plate 2. Open the provided .3mf file directly into bambu studio 3. Make sure the filament you are feeding into the machine is properly identified in the device tab of Bambu Studio 4. Preview and print from Bambu Studio Over 2000 people have successfully downloaded and printed the provided files. If you are having major difficulties, the problem is likely on your end.

I had trouble with the 1.5 Tool using the “Bambu logo individual print option” listed. I manually paused at layer 15/25 instead of the preset 21/25. Using a .4mm nozzle with PLA Marble on the A1. Hope this helps someone and thanks to the designer! 😀

which profile are you having issues with? I just checked both "Bambu style" profiles, and I'm seeing that both have a pause at 16 layers for the 1.5mm wrench. The "on One Plate" profile has two pauses, the first is at 16 layers for the 1.5mm wrench, and a second at 21 layers for the 2mm wrench. The "each on a different plate" also has the same 16 layer pause for the 1.5mm wrench. Are you seeing something different when you open into Bambu Studio?

I just checked again, because I was curious, and even if I change the printer and nozzle, and layer height, the pauses persist at the correct mm height regardless of layers. If you are seeing something different, please report back.

I'll preface by saying I'm a novice. Just got my printer 2 days ago and still learning the software... The preset was "Bambu Lab Style version" option #2. 1.) I clicked "A1" and the top and imported the file. (I print most stuff one-at-a-time, so I opted for the individual plate version) 2.) I first deleted the initial plate and 2mm wrench model. 3.) Sliced the remaining plate and printed. (The screenshot shows at #17. I'm not comfortable with the software yet, so I just watched it for what I thought was best thought was the best After checking some more: It seems that me deleting Plate #1 (2mm wrench) resulted in it automatically populating the Plate #2 object (1.5mm) to Plate #1... with all of the presets. Essentially, it kept pausing at layer #21 which is only for the 2mm wrench. I guess the lesson is don't delete plates haha

Are you only placing the 1.5mm wrench in the first pause and waiting to place the 2mm wrench on the second pause?

I printed several times, during the pause the print head kicks wrench’s out.

I'm sorry you are experiencing trouble. I am trying to determine the root of your issue, as it may help others who could run into a similar frustration. The profile you are using has been printed 275 times by others without issue, so let's look into what is causing your failures. Firstly, just to be clear, did you make any other changes to the provided print profile? Move the model on the plate, change the nozzle size, anything? Secondly, you said "during the pause the print head kick wrench's out" but the print head should not be moving during the pause. It should locate to the the wiper and pause there until you select continue. Also, I notice you are using the "on One Plate" profile, can you please confirm that you are only placing the small wrench on the first pause, and you're pressing it into the print. It should be almost entirely below the surface. If you are doing these things, the wrench will be below the surface of the print, wedged into the recess, and the print head shouldn't be able to push the wrench loose once it resumes from the pause. Please reply so we can understand your issue better.

Very very difficult to "clip in" the Allen keys. Only just managed to get the smaller one in but the big one was impossible. Too much force required to clip them in.

Sorry you had this experience. Honestly though, the print quality on the one pictured is pretty low and makes me think either your filament settings don't match, or you have some wet filament. If the filament is over extruding due to these issues, it will impact the accuracy of the print and you will run into these issues. Unfortunately, that is an issue on your end and has nothing to do with the model or profile.

Filament fully dried before printing, the print quality is rough because the Allen key didn't fit and was catching the nozzle. Closer inspection shows that the internal radius of the design doesn't match the internal radius of the Allen key. Bambulab may have changed supplier since you uploaded this design. I tried an alternative design and it snapped in straight away which suggests something has changed.

Excellent contribution, as simple as it is useful. Now I must remake the box to accommodate the new key size

If you want, you can send me the box you are using, and I could use those dimensions to remake the handles fit the box. Probably simpler

Thanks for the Boost and Rating :) BTW, You don't need to create a PETG profile. Even in the Handy App, you can select your filament material before you print. Also, your forward placement places the small wrench handle slightly on top of the X1 purge and calibration lines.
