Description

Magnetic Mountain Lamp – A Unique Gift for Hikers and Adventurers

Illuminate your memories with this stunning customizable terrain lamp, designed for adventurers and art lovers alike. Made with premium components from Bambu Lab's Maker's Supply, this lamp blends functionality and personalization into a unique decor piece. Featuring a Power Supply Module, a Potentiometer for dimming, a 200mm LED COB light for vibrant illumination, and a large acrylic tube for a sleek, modern design, it’s both practical and visually striking.

The lamp base and cap can be customized with any terrain, making it a meaningful gift to commemorate a memorable hike, a special trip, or as a stylish art piece for your home or office. (Intermediate CAD experience may be needed to fully customize this model; If there is enough interest I'll make a blender tutorial video on this topic) I've included all the .STEP Files so that you may make your own modifications.

I'm planning on making more Lamp Bases with popular Mountains from all over the world so stay tuned :)

I'll be adding them as additional profiles here

Features:

  • Customizable Terrain Design: Personalize the lamp with any 94mm x 94mm cylindrical topographic map or landscape of your choice, or print the included Showcase Model
  • High-Quality Components: Powered by Bambu Lab Maker's Supply - IA005 Power Distribution Board, dimmable LED COB light, and a durable acrylic tube.
  • Easy Printing: Designed for easy printing, with or without an AMS, using simple layer changes for stunning results and close to zero waste
  • Easy Assembly: Requires 4x M2x4mm screws, 6x M3x8mm screws, and a touch of glue to put together seamlessly.

Perfect for hikers, travelers, or anyone who appreciates innovative design, this lamp is not just a light source—it's a conversation starter and a timeless keepsake. Add a personal touch to your space or surprise someone special with a truly one-of-a-kind gift!

All Hardware and Electrical Components can be purchased from Maker's Supply for under $30 :)

Assembly Instructions:

(All support material should be removed before assembly)

Step 1: Install the Potentiometer Board (IA007) using 2x M2x4mm Machine Screws (AA149)

  • Make sure the Connector is facing the bottom of the Lamp

Step 2: Install the Power Distribution Board (IA005) using 2x M2x4mm Machine Screws (AA149)

  • Make sure ALL CONNECTORS are facing the bottom of the Lamp

Step 3: Install the COB LED Strip Light by threading it through the center hole

  • This can be secured using a small touch of glue, or you can leave it as is.

  • The COB Board should be installed in the following orientation - again with the connector facing the bottom of the Lamp

Top View: Close-Up with the Power Board on the LEFT:

Step 4: Connect the wiring and make sure everything works - All wiring is included in the IA005, IA007, and KA008 Kits

  • Simple Wiring Diagram

  • The Main Power Cord can be slotted through the oval slot on the back of the Lamp Base

Step 5: Install the Wiring Protector

  • Make sure the Power Cable has some wiggle room inside the Lamp Base

Step 6: Install the Lamp Base Cover using 6x M3x8mm Countersunk Machine Screws (AA086)

  • These screws thread directly into the plastic - No need for Heat-Inserts

Step 7: Install a 2mmx2mm Magnet (CA015) in the small hole in the Lamp Top Cover

  • Pay attention to the Magnet Polarity - This was designed to be a push fit so no glue is required here

Step 8: Attach the other 2mmx2mm Magnets (CA015) to the end of the COB LED Strip using ~10mm of Heat Shrink Tubing(2.0mm)

  • Again, pay attention to the Magnet Polarity, making sure the magnet at the end of the COB Strip and the magnet in the Lamp Top Cover pull to each other and don't repel

  • I found using between 2 - 6 magnets can work - I settled on using 4 for mine - It all depends on if you want the magnets to be touching or not

Step 9 (OPTIONAL): Glue the Top Lamp Cover and the Bottom Lamp Cover into the Acrylic Tube (HC005)

  • Use a minimal amount of glue to prevent seeing it through the acrylic and to give the Lamp a “seamless” look

  • I added (OPTIONAL) as glue is not needed if you'd like to disassemble the light and reuse components

It is powered by USB: The potentiometer board is used to control the brightness so it is fully adjustable :)

And how do you do that after closing the tube?

When doing testing during the design phase for this I definitely installed the magnets backwards a few times lol... Is there anything that would make installation any easier? Thanks for the 5 Stars and the photo! Cheers!

great work @Akelyte! I just finished mine. a question and feedback. Q: you mention bringing or modifying the terrain. how would one do that? I want to make the terrain cover almost the entire side of the tube so the the light is illuminating a larger area of the terrain. feedback: since the light has about 1/2 inch of shrink tube attaching the magnet. the top terrain could be moved down into the tub a little more and recess the magnet deeper or use a larger magnet so that the shrink tube could be hidden inside the recess.

Thank you for the feedback and I'm happy to answer any questions :) Are you looking to essentially connect the top and bottom landscape pieces following the contour of the tube, making it more of a uni-directional light source? Almost sloping together "inception" style? Thanks for indulging lol, I just want to make sure I fully understand! Also that is great feedback! I'll see what can possibly be done in the slicer to correct this. This is one of the more complex designs I've made and am always looking to improve :)

That’s exactly it. I have a cave-like scene. The top and bottom would (or could) meet in the middle and maybe key together with a tooth or dowell like interface. if the top center point is a little lower with a 3-4mm hole going down 5-6mm, then putting the 2mm hole for the magnet might help with the light, but it would negate the appearance of a floating light.

A truly exquisite model, I used eSan Bone White filament. Only the screws proved somewhat tricky

I love this lamp! Very nice to look at. I made a few changes to the print profile to get finer details on the mountain, for example. And I used PETG for the interface of the supports, so it can be easily solved. I added my print profile

Would enjoy a more fantasy twist; maybe UFO beam, sword light in mountain, explosion at the top, ect
