Description

Updated 12-16-2024: Now includes optional printable hour and minute hands! These better match the clock's overall design and can be used with or without the seconds hand provided with the clock components kit.

This desk or table clock displays the fascinating internals of a hard drive. Makes a great gift for any tech lover.

Except a few extra millimeters of thickness to cover the clock mechanism, it's modeled to 100% scale of real drive and measures 102.5 mm x 146.8 mm x 28.5 mm (without the clock hands and shaft). Includes plenty of small details in addition to a platter, actuator coil, actuator arm and actuator magnet. Bambu Lab PLA Silk Copper worked very well to print the copper wire windings of the coil which look surprisingly realistic. I would highly recommend using Bambu or a similar copper silk filament for this (color 3 in the print profile).

Easy assembly requiring no fasteners or hardware other than a clock kit.

See the Assembly Guide PDF for detailed instructions for building.

Looks so good! I have been waiting to figure out what to make with my clock kit I got with my printer and I knew it was this as soon as I saw it. I might try to print some different arms to go with the actual clock components as the style they come with doesn't fit this well imo. Also the read arm is too loose to friction fit but a drop of glue will fix that. But the print itself was awesome and BIG thanks for the detailed instructions!

Thank you! I agree, the hands aren't the best, but I hadn't decided which to use just yet so I just stuck with the simple ones. I have a generic kit that came with lots of different hands, but the shorter ones where a bit too ornate. Friction fits can be tough sometimes across different printers and filaments. I will revisit the arm since I really did want it to move, but it needs to stay in place as well.

Very nice! Printed with eSun black PLA, Duramic silver PLA+, StrongHero3D Silk Copper PLA. Initially tried to use a silk silver PLA made by "Reprapper" but that stuff is absolute garbage. It turned in to tiny threads of something that almost seemed like fabric and completely jammed up my AMS which I had to fully disassemble to clear, but after that with some decent filament, printed great. TLDR: Don't buy reprapper. Do print this.

Thanks, that looks great! I also added hands to the profile today if you happened to miss it. As for silk PLA, sometimes it works beautifully, others times it's a pain. Someone had mentioned that drying, then drying some more seemed to be the trick, but I usually just switch to a different filament and move on. I don't think I've had any jam up an AMS though...my old super cheap PLA likes to have that cornered ;)

I had to use the original needles because the ones included for printing don't fit, otherwise it's a great design

Excellent clock. Thankfully, it doesn't produce any scratching noises like my last HDD The hands fit perfectly and due to the "weight" at the bottom, it also stands stably on my shelf

Magnificent clock! The only issue lies with the hard disk head, which keeps falling off unless positioned precisely. I believe I will affix it permanently.
