Description

This elegant poinsettia features articulated, print-in-place leaves, allowing you to adjust them for a customizable and lifelike arrangement. The model is designed to be printed in single color per build plate with no AMS needed, except for the small flowers in the center. These are separate 4 color parts (dark green, light green, yellow, red) that have to be glued in place, but they can also be printed in a single color without losing much of the esthetic.

Each stem requires one small flower (four in total), but since I’m printing multiple plants for friends and family, I batch-print them to save filament. That’s why the profile includes 12 additional hidden flowers.

When glueing the small flowers, align them by locating the small bulge in the hexagon shape to ensure correct orientation.

The stems have custom support for stability that snaps right of after printing.

How to assemble:

The leaves are printed independently from the stem and are easy to assemble. To attach a leaf, place your hand upside down, position the leaf on top, and gently press it with your thumb to slightly bend it in half. Then, insert the leaf into the stem for a secure fit.

The intricate details and realistic design make it a beautiful addition to holiday decorations. To complete the look of this festive piece I used the woven basket planter designed by JamesThePrinter. The link is at the bottom. Just scale it up to 121.4%. Also, if you are using Orca slicer, I recommend enabling “Make overhangs printable”.

The included insert features a soil-like surface achieved with the fuzzy skin setting and fits snugly into the planter with a press fit. For added weight, I used 50x17x2.8 mm washers, which are placed at the bottom of the insert and secured with the included screw before inserting it into the planter. Use a wide, flat-head screwdriver to fasten the screw securely.

The weight is not needed to keep it standing but gives it a nice feel when handling.

I highly recommend using my print profile. The settings are basic but include patterned top and bottom surfaces of the leaves, added mouse ears and brim where necessary, and a fuzzy skin modifier for the insert.

“Single Plant” build plates are modified stems with added leaves If you don't want to print the whole plant. Print it with the assorted leaves and place it in a vase. If you’d like a small planter for it, send me a link to a planter you like, and I’ll create a custom insert for it.

Use solid bottom and 121.4% scale.

Filaments used:
Poinsettia:
Trček plastika PLA Forest green
Trček plastika PLA Red
Azurefilm PLA Transparent yellow
Trček plastika PLA Lime green
Insert:
Trček plastika PLA Brown

Woven planter (I recommend using wood filament for the planter for its natural look and feel):
Trček plastika Wood Pine

Update 16.12.2024.
To address the tipping issue with the stems, I added three new plates, each offering a different level of support. I haven’t experienced tipping myself, even with the lowest level of support, so I can’t say for certain, but hopefully, this will be sufficient for everyone.

Figuring out the scale on the planter you suggested. This is how it turned out at 100% no hole, I didn’t scale the model any either. I think 115% on the planter is going to work using the slicer measurement tools. Getting close to done.

I exported it from the original designer file and imported it into my print profile when printing. Perhaps some change in size happened along the way. This is the correct measurement.

I just checked and you are correct. When downloaded, the original model is indeed too small. Sorry for the wasted filament. The correct scale is 121,4%. I will update the description asap.

Any tips on printing the stems? I keep having failures at around layer 450 and above, right before the short stem would end.

That's quite a low layer to start encountering issues. I recommend cleaning the build plate thoroughly with detergent and warm water to ensure proper adhesion. If the problem persists, let me know, and I can update the profile to include additional supports on the stem.

I cleaned the plate up and even slowed it down to 50% and I can get the short stem printed complete and about layer 650 or 130mm height the stems start moving and spaghetti. Still have adhesion on the bed. I'm trying normal supports on the bed only to see if that will help but they stop at around the 118mm mark so I'm not sure if that will help.

What you are about to read is my experience with the print. It does not pertain to any specific issues other than what is described. I uh didn't realize there was a single plant vs mass production... so I kinda just kept Printing Red and Green and Big and Small leaves and fit them in the holes haphazardly until I was satisfied / couldn't figure out how to do it better without printing more / again. Stems I printed horizontally cuz layer 700 had them fail. all in all, fantastic model.

Thank you for the feedback. When deciding how much of each type of leaf to use, I followed the fact that the further up the stem you go, the newer and smaller the leaves tend to be, while the older ones are larger. Based on this, I chose the number of small and large leaves that would look natural. Keeping this in mind, I filled the plates to avoid printing more than is necessary unless you want to decide for yourself. I uploaded the print profile with reinforced stems so there shouldn't be any more fails.

Yeah I didn't notice until I had already printed 2 sheets of Green that you had so nicely named the buildplates. Didn't waste any filament while trying to match the pattern in the pic you used in the upload and used the same small drRed leaf big DrRed leaf small grn leaves big grn leaves pattern. I still can take a heat gun to the support interface touching sides to look less obvious, but I just wanted to show what they had looked like from how I printed for others!

struggled a bit with the stems as my silk metallic filament needed more walls and infill on the stems. The filament is over a year old and the stems were brittle. I did get it figured out.
