Description

This is a Coffee Distributor with Adjustable Depth in two popular versions for 51mm portafilter and 58mm, a versatile and functional tool designed to elevate your coffee-making experience. It features:

  1. Adjustable Depth Settings: The depth can be finely adjusted from approximately 2 mm to 7 mm, allowing you to achieve the perfect tamp for your espresso shot.
  2. Three-Part Assembly:
    • Base Part: Provides a stable foundation for consistent distribution.
    • Counter Nut: Enables secure and precise adjustments to the depth.
    • Distributor: Ensures even coffee distribution for optimal extraction.

This model is perfect for coffee enthusiasts seeking precision in their espresso preparation. It can be 3D printed to customize color, or material, making it a must-have accessory for baristas and home brewers alike!

Updates log:

06-12-2024: V2 Thread gap increased for middle part (distributor part)

08-12-2024: V3 Chamfer is added for the middle part (distributor part)

Materials:

Base & ring parts - Bambulab PLA Matte Charcoal

Distributor part - Bambulab PLA Matte Mandarin orange

Assembling and printing guidelines:

  • IMPORTANT: Ensure the layer height is set to 0.12 mm or lower.
  • IMPORTANT: Give distributor top surface a little sanding, than coffee powder won't stick on it.
  • IMPORTANT: Before final assembly, screw and unscrew the connections several times to achieve smoother movement of the components.

Assembling process:

  1. Screw the ring and distributor part together, preferably in a max depth position.
  2. Screw those with the base part
  3. Tighten the ring and distributor a little bit to secure connection, in that case, ring as a counter nut.
  4. Ready for use!

How to change the depth:

  1. Loosen the counter nut (ring component) from the distributor. Then, unscrew the bottom (base) part.
  2. Hold the distributor by the bottom and top sections as shown in the GIF, and adjust the distance between the ring and the distributor.
  3. Tighten the counter nut (ring) securely.

looks awesome! I would recommend to polish a little bit top surface with sanding paper. then coffee won’t stick at all

Printed and assembled ok.
Other Issues:However, this design didn't really work well for me. The depth was still too thick for my basket and I ended up very uneven bed of coffee even after WDT with 2 mounds with a lot of coffee stuck to the distributor making a huge mess. Tried with several coffees and all was exactly the same so unfortunately this totally useless for me :(

Great design! I coated the surface with a light layer of UV resin, cured it and smoothed it out and the grounds don't stick at all. Also, for those having a difficult time screwing the pieces together, as I did... Try washing the parts in warm, soapy water, then try again. This helped me tremendously.

Threads are so tight there is no way to make this work. I'd like to post a with better threads and tolerances if you allow it. Currently your model is under a restrictive license.

Hi, sorry for your bad experience. For me it just works fine, but it seems that due to different flow rate settings of the users it might not work properly. To ensure better screwing of the parts, I have added the chamfers as well as increased the gap for the "Middle part" ("Distributor part"), please feel free to reprint following part withe the latest version - V3. I have also updated my printing profile.

The tolerances are too tight, and I can’t screw everything together. A little more play would be okay with the counter but holding it together

Hello @aflextwin, thanks for your feedback. Basically there is a gap 0.1 mm for threads. Maybe your flow rate settings are a little bit higher than mine, what is your measured outer diameter of the base part? If it is higher than nominal value, you could try to improve your prints with flow rate reduction a little. But I take your feedback with me and check the possibility to increase the gap a little. Upd.: I increased a little bit the gap for distributor part, you could give it a try. Please download updated version of the part Middle-part-51mm-v2 or Middle-part-58mm-v2 based on your portafilter size.
