Description

Base

Here’s what you’ll find when you open the Christmas ball project in Bambu Studio. Let’s go through all the steps to customize it with your name! 😊

Step 1: Choose a Font

Start by picking a font you like for the name. In my case, I used one called "Ananda".It’s free for personal use. Unfortunately, I couldn’t include it here because it’s not compatible with Bambu Studio files, but you can download it for free here: https://www.dafont.com/ananda-2.font.

Once downloaded, extract the .ttf file to your desktop. Right-click on the file and select INSTALL FOR ALL USERS. If this option doesn’t appear, try pressing CTRL + SHIFT while right-clicking. Once installed this way, the font should now appear in Bambu Studio.

Step 2: Add Text to the Ball

Now that you have the ball and the font ready, it’s time to add the text. Click on the ball with the left

mouse button to select it. Once selected, use Bambu Studio’s text tool to insert your text.

In the text tool, choose the font you just installed and adjust the settings.

For my example, I used the following values:

  • Size: 25
  • Thickness: 2
  • Embedded Depth: 25

Type your name in the input field. After that, position the text on the ball. Keep in mind that the ball is upside down, so we’ll need to fix that next.

Step 3: Rotate the Ball for Printing

To prepare the ball for printing, use the rotation tool to turn it so the screw cap faces down on the print bed.

Step 4: Adjust Object Type and Apply Fuzzy Skin

Now, change the text’s object type to Modifier and adjust its color. Under the “Other” section, set Fuzzy Skin to None. This way, the ball will have the fuzzy texture, but the name will remain smooth, giving it a fun and unique look.

Step 5: Adjust flush and variable layer height

Now we will use the variable layer height tool to reduce the printing time, and we will reduce the flush to 0,45 (0.6 if you prefer to play it safe by using high contrasts) this reduce time and material.

Final Step

That’s how it should look! 🎉

It is highly recommended to use some kind of adhesive on the bed before printing, I use hairspray :p

I hope this guide helps you use my design. I tried to make it as straightforward as possible, but Bambu Studio doesn’t handle rotated text very well during edits, so this seemed like the best approach. Happy customizing!

It turned out beautifully, I don’t know why I had problems with the lettering; I set it to white but it came out pink, and I had some stray filaments that I fixed with a blade

@maca Thank you for your photo, rating, and comment! It turned out spectacular, the pink hue of the lettering, if you're using white filament, is due to insufficient purging; increase it next time to ensure a clean result I believe you skipped step 4 to transform the text into a modifier and remove the blurry skin from the text, but with that result, I think it's perfect; I wouldn't change a thing Congratulations ^^

You are right, I skipped step 4; I didn't understand its purpose

Excellent design and instructions, thank you. I'm still fairly new to 3D printing and the clear instructions really helped. I did fail first attempt but I think that was because I have an A1 printer, so inverting the ball to stand on the neck was always asking for trouble, sure enough the ball unstuck from the bed as it flew back and forth and (thankfully dry) filament everywhere! I left the ball the right way up and added supports and have successfully printed two now!

Very funny to see this, as I have designed a very similar ball a few weeks ago. As yours is very welled explained, I will not publish mine. Thanks for sharing!

Other Issues:at 96/97% twice hitting the baubles and sending them of the bed.. ironically enough breaking from the thread

I would use standard support instead of Brim because the print is top heavy.

I'm printing, but it pauses after each layer, taking longer than it should, do you know what could be causing this? It's only a pause of a few seconds, it's not purging

It just doesn't occur to me that you have timelapse video activated and those seconds are how long it takes to take the photo. I hope that's it and you can fix it.

Timelapse is not enabled 😢

Another thing that might be happening is that if your print head moves to the side every time it pauses, you may have a partial clog, or your AMS might not be positioned at a good angle. The printer could be detecting an obstruction, which is why it checks for one on every layer.

Hello, I have a Mac and a new font installed. In Bambu Studio I can also select them, but it doesn't put them on the ball.

The ball has a high resolution and that makes Bamboo Studio have some lag when placing the text, leave the mouse over the ball and wait a bit, ññ without clicking, you will see how the text appears to be placed. I hope that is the problem and I can help you!
