I’ve tested various spool adapters, but none have the rigidity I need. Most are too flexible and create excessive friction against the sides of the AMS. I also recall printing one that rubbed against the clear top of the AMS, causing a print failure due to a jam.
I designed this adapter based on others from MakerWorld, using the same diameter as the original spools to avoid interference with the glass. It’s specifically made for spools with a 54mm inner diameter. The external lid provides greater strength, eliminates flex, and improves traction with the AMS rollers. I’ve never had any issues using these parts—they fit perfectly with JAYO filament. I haven’t tested other brands, but the design is based on the standard hole dimensions used by most generic spools.
The width is adjustable via a threaded mechanism, though it’s not recommended for very wide spools. JAYO spools have a 54mm hole and a 60mm width, leaving about 2mm clearance on each side of the AMS walls. Do the math accordingly!
